Re: Nice GOC film clip shows pic of St John Maximovitch
Yes we are preparing a documentary about the life and struggles of Bishop Petros. Geronda Petros did concelebrate frequently with the Russians; he was particularly close to Lavr, Leonty and Averky (at whose funeral he concelebrated). This was in many ways a product of local circumstances, rather tha...

Re: sanctity of Nicholas Kasatkin
Well, surely the most likely explanation for the small number of Chinese Orthodox saints is because Orthodox Christianity only recently came to China (missionaries from the Church of Persia had come already in the late first millennium, but I think they had already fallen away into Nestorianism by t...

Re: Matthewites and Chrysostomites
I think Vladimir Moss explained this better than I can. I'll repost the link I found earlier in the thread: http://www.romanitas.ru/eng/Matthewites%20versus%20Florinites.htm I'll sum up my position. The Matthewites are correct in holding the New Calendarists to be true schismatics and devoid of grac...

Re: Please pray for my conversion

I am in the GOC/HOTCA, that is, the American Metropolis (under Met Pavlos of Astoria) of the True Orthodox Church of Greece (under Abp Chrysostomos II of At...

Re: Matthewites and Chrysostomites
The problem with the Matthewite position is that you take a debatable point and make it into dogma before the whole Church has actually pronounced its position. I happen to agree that the State Church really fell into schism when it adopted the New Calendar, which had already been clearly anathemati...

Re: St/Blessed John of Shanghai
The Matthewites separated from the other Old Calendarists very early, with only a brief period in the 70s when they were in communion with both ROCA and (I think) Auxentius' synod. So they haven't recognized the canonizations performed by ROCA since then, including St John Maximovich. I don't totall...

Re: Question about writings on the ROAC USA website
Yes, I was curious about some of these writings. But I wouldn't get too hung up about it, since you're talking about various things (Darwinism, "River of Fire" soteriology) which I believe are wrong, but which have not been formally condemned by the Church, so I believe it's legitimate to ...
