Elder Nektary of Optina

There are varied, interesting references to Elder Nektary here at Euphrosynos Cafe, but until now, he has not had his own thread ! Here is perhaps the fullest explanation of Elder Nektary's mysterious movements in the last five or six years of his life. It is from the book "Elder Nikon of Opti...

Re: ROCiE-Ph MetPhilaret's spiritual son starts a new TOC

Information USED to be available, though it was minimal. I guess things have changed quite a bit during the time that this thread was "asleep" ! I suspect Met Filaret has no Bishop under him currently. Birmingham COULD BE his own place of residence. Many Australians move to the UK. This i...

Re: ROCiE-Ph MetPhilaret's spiritual son starts a new TOC

Re: NatlGeo:"Jesus" special issue

VERY INTERESTING. Thank you, eish, for that excellent survey. It's REALLY helpful !

Yes, also Renaissance painters like Raphael always used women they knew as models for their depictions of the Mother of God. I always thought it was dismaying !

Re: ROCiE-Ph MetPhilaret's spiritual son starts a new TOC

Wonderful ! Appreciate that.
It seems time to open up any relevant threads that do contain valuable information, historical facts, etc.

Why keep them hidden ??
Browsers of St. Euphrosynos Cafe can widen their horizons. Items may even be pertinent to their search for the right TOC for them.

Re: NatlGeo:"Jesus" special issue

Here is one of the dreadful images that the National Geographic edition used, showing the supposed Heavenly Queen in the garb of a Thai dancer holding the Child. This one was full page on the inside of the bac cover, so it was given special pride of place. But the artwork is not actually from Thail...
