Yes, it was Mithra.

Protestants and heathens/Jews don't refer to the saints as saints. This would be normal usage even in their churches.

All very possible. I wonder if part of it is two fold. First that internet and tech capabilities in general are (and have been) rapidly increasing. This could be part of what is making older and possibly dated websites function worse and worse as they get more and more outdated year by year. Second...

This is a well-known and even well-documented phenomenon.
