Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

St. Matthew's actions were justified. He and his fellow bishops wrote to Met. Chrysostom twice correcting him for his error in departing from the original 1935 document, but Met. Chrysostom persisted in his error and continued to vacillate neither returning to the EP or Greek State Church nor retur...

Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

I think you're missing the point. They left Bishop Matthew because they believed that Bishop Matthew had committed an act against the canons. They were not the only ones. It is unreasonable to accept your own discipline(defrocking) from someone you believe has no authority to do enact such disciplin...

Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

Lydia, the canons cannot depose anyone, and there is no such thing as self-excommunication in Orthodoxy. Archbishop Matthew of blessed memory exercised economia in the performance of a single-handed ordination. Until a synod were to convene against him and depose his bishops, they remain as bishops...

Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

Auxentius was in fact chosen as a candidate for episcopacy by the florinite clergy and laymen, along with Akakios. However, he withheld vital information that he had been defrocked to the ROCOR bishops. Candidates for Priesthood or Bishopric are supposed to make a confession and not withhold anythi...

Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

As St. Matthew had fallen asleep in the Lord in 1950, Met. Chrysostomos of Florina knew that his life was also drawing to a close, so it appears that he was seeking repentance, but instead of asking the GOC Synod of Bishops to be received back into the fold, Chrysostomos asked the GOC Synod to join...

Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

Lydia, do purchase and read Father Stephen's book with all the footnotes. He quotes various sources including HOCNA's research, correspondence, and news sources and periodicals of that time. Yes, it is a complicated history. Below is an excerpt from Fr. Stephen's book concerning the demise of the F...

Re: Bp Auxentios GOC-K: 1-19-2015 OS - Debate

Maria, you cite as a source Father Stephen Fraser. That can't be correct. He was not there when Bishop Matthew's followers begged him to consecrate a bishop alone, was he? Father Stephen is just repeating things he has read or heard. Are there official documents from the synod attesting to this? Muc...
