SORRY TO HEAR THIS !

I would attend the funeral if I were in the NY area. How sad Met Anthony's flock must be.

All that Met Anthony wrote as quoted in this thread is so sincere and heartfelt

I like that he said the truth outright :

. Because as much as I try, at times it is very difficult for me to keep my courage up and to keep my mind clear. Please pray that our Lord gives me clearness of mind.

Hardly anyone is strong or secure enough to honestly admit a weakness like this while ill.

I am sorry, too, for the pains which he said were very, very bad.

Thank you, Maria, for posting the 2013 Sunday of Orthodoxy sermon here. It's too difficult for me to access facebook.
Thanks for your thoughtfulness.

Sad that only THREE YEARS later, Met Anthony would repose on that very day.
It's so special - and fitting - that he reposed on this great day on the Church's calendar. I hope all of his flock can take consolation from that.

Are you going to have any pictures of the funeral ?

Thanks for these, great to see.
Was the second picture a recent one ? For he looks very tired.

Apparently, Met. Anthony was struggling with cancer for at least the past three years. During this time, he labored for Christ even though he was chronically exhausted, in pain, and often struggling with chronic colds and near pneumonia. He only sought medical help late in February 2016, but by that time, it was too late for doctors to do anything. May his memory be eternal.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Thanks for these further details. Would you guess [ or could you ask ] whether Met Anthony had been exhausted for quite a long time, as it sounds like from the word you used, 'chronic' ?
Or - was the fatigue related directly to the depredations of that 3 years of cance?

How old was he, by the way ?

About his only seeking medical care at the near-end of his life, it strikes me that maybe there wasn't much that could have been done. He probably knew this and put it off as long as he could.

Met. Anthony was following the example of many monastics, especially St. Nectarios of Aegina, who also struggled with exhaustion and chronic illnesses until finally he went to a hospital, but they could do nothing for him. St. Nectarios died of painful prostate cancer, and back in 1920, they did not administer morphine.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
