How can we improve E Cafe?

Post by Maria »

Dear readers,

The administrators of E Cafe are seeking ways to make this board more user friendly and a good resource not only for those inquiring into True Orthodoxy, but also for members of True Orthodoxy.

Please be honest. Tell us your concerns. Mention ways that this board can be improved.
Play nice and do not attack each other. We want some good feedback

Thank you.

I have added yet another forum here at E Cafe, Anathemas: Past and Current Heresies, and split some threads from Theology, Patristics, and Tradition into the new forum.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

How can we improve E Cafe?

Thank you, Maria, for coming forward with this LONG-AWAITED post !!

As long as you asked, with my newfound freedom, the first thing I would like to say is that I always feel uncomfortable coming to this site, though
I mostly screen out that feeling.

...[edited to remove gossip]

I never liked the blaring red color of the type that was introduced. The old Blue was so soothing.
There is so much stress everywhere that we don't need to feel more just to be able to read or post here.
What's wrong with the Blue ? It's well known to be a calming color. True, it looked a little faded perhaps.
What about a more lively shade of Blue or Violet Blue so it can be seen better on one's screen ?

Red cars are known by all today as magnets for the police : meaning trouble for the driver. So, why not steer clear.
It seems the goal should be to reduce the quite awful contention which has existed here, at least during the time I have been a member, and while I was reading on here.
Why not have a pleasant environment which will encourage people to come and read and learn ?! Not drive them away, subconsciously feeling strife. There is a reason red flags are waved at animals in bullfights to get them enraged !

Dear Barbara,

Thank you for bringing up the color scheme.

Color is important. In Russia, the color red is considered joyful.
When a survey was taken for the color of the Orthodox Study Bible, the red motif was selected overwhelmingly.

Perhaps we could have the color changed during Great Lent to a light purple color as I think that would be a good change.

However, OC net already has the blue color scheme and we do want our board to be distinctive.

Thanks for your candid reply.

In Christ,
Maria

p.s. I removed your other comment into the Mod Forum so that Anastasios could read it there, but I could not leave it in the public forum.

Maria,

Sure ! I am sorry. I saw the "free for all" term and figured it might be all right to speak my mind. Not to slander but to
point out things that others may also be thinking, but too timid to say.

That is perfect what you did with that section.

May I write another mention here and you can also transfer that for Anastasios "Eyes Only" ? For what I have to say
even is related to espionage, hee hee. You will see. Or should I write a paragraph to you by PM ?

Meanwhile, on the positive side, I would like to state how important it is that you, Maria, are working with a clear mind to organize these forums and threads. It will help everyone to sort out topics. And any researchers or inquirers to more efficiently find what they need.

I applaud the construction of NEW Forums to better address the needs of all who would like to benefit from reading discussions or quotations or photos like you are doing with the Prayers. Perhaps even that thread could be made into a separate small Forum ? For unfortunately too many people in the world have a form of "ADD" these days. They don't have the patience to read through texts.
I love to read. Therefore, I forget that today many people get impatient and restless. Hence the use of IMAGES is a great thing for that type of interested reader. Especially the youth, who have been raised on digital media rather than encouraged to read actual books.

After all, we could be drawing Roman Catholics here with our discussions and they might want to benefit too from the deep thoughts mentioned in the images. The Early Church Fathers are common to them, of course. My idea is to help uplift all souls who can be reached through whatever avenues : written or pictorial. I think this should be our goal, rather than being only focused on trying to get them to join our True Orthodox Churches. If they do, fantastic ! We are SO GLAD !
But if they take a long time to make up their minds, as is natural and understandable, why not give them some spiritual food to help nurture them while they study and learn meanwhile ?

Thank you for all your work in constructing these various means through which all visitors here can be edified.

I'll do that. Meanwhile, what about Green ?? That would be distinctive from the other site.
And it would be REFRESHING !

For me and others who have spent time studying Communism, red + Russia = not joy but sorrow !
We think of Red Square, no matter how many times we have read that it meant originally "Beautiful Square",
as occupied by terrifying goose-stepping troops overseen by Soviet bosses, accompanied by displays of the latest SS-20 or whatever model rockets meant to strike fear in the hearts of Western nations.

I appreciate the idea of Violet during Great Lent. That would help !

I have further comments, too.
