Celibate priests being allowed to marry after ordination?

Post by Lucian Hodoboc »

From what I've read on the internet, in rare cases, Eastern-Orthodox bishops can make exceptions and allow celibate priests to get married and still preserve their clerical state. I'm interested to know if this is true and if you, by any chance, have heard of such cases? :?

If a priest (married or monastic) gets married AFTER he is ordained a priest, this is grounds for being deposed from the priesthood. I have heard of two cases, one an archimandrite and one a bishop, who married a woman civilly to protect them from deportation to a communist country, and, in each case, the synod of bishops chose NOT to defrock the man, since he did not live with the woman in a sexual relationship.

Again, why is this relevant?

I'm doing research for a literary work I'm currently outlining. Thank you for the information you provided. Feel free to tell me more. It is really helpful. :)

What does the Church say about a Great Schema monk? Is he allowed to marry?

No monk can marry after they've taken their monastic vows.

Are you certain? Is the monk himself supposed to know this?

Yes, the monk should know this before he even becomes a novice.
