Until that day comes, perhaps this would be a good place to talk about the misuse of Greek words in the bible?

For instance, in Exodus 14:31, Numbers 12:7, and in Job 1:8, the word used in most/all English bibles is "Servant", but in the Septuagint, the Greek word used is theda-pone (θεραπον), which means "friend", or "companion" or "one who serves out of love and not for compensation." Even Brenton's Septuagint has the mistranslation.

There is a significant difference in my view. A wife is far different than a maid or a slave - although my wife might argue the point. :)

I don't know what the original Hebrew word is. Maybe we also need a Hebrew section.

One that seems to cause a lot of problems is the translation of nous as "mind". In a culture like ours--which places so much emphasis on thinking for yourself and figuring everything out and knowledge being the source of power; and which also likes to use singular, precise theological formulas (e.g., defining salvation as "Saved by grace through faith alone. Period.")--this can do a lot of damage.

Χαιρετώ όλα τα μέλη του Euphrosynos Café. Είμαι νέο μέλος, ζω στην Ελλάδα και χάρηκα πολύ με το ενδιαφέρον και την αγάπη που δείχνετε για την Ορθόδοξη πίστη μας και για την Ελληνική γλώσσα.
Εύχομαι να είστε πάντα καλά.
