Cat Teeth Cleaned

Post by Luke »

Please pray for our cat, who is getting her teeth cleaned today. I worry about the anesthesia more than anything. If everything goes according to plan, she will be back with us this evening.

I have always remembered this post ! I could not answer before the Forum went offline earlier.
The truth is that any elderly cat should NEVER NEVER have anesthesia. It's too much of a shock to the system. I would so like to have cats that I know checked for the tartar that builds up on cat teeth so easily. But there is no point, since it is unsafe to allow them to be anesthetized. It is punishing on any cat's system, but especially on that of an older cat.
The only alternative is to have the vet scrape the tartar off with his or her fingernail. But the cat has to be willing to 'open wide' for the 'dentist' !

Cats are considered senior at guess what age ? 7 !

I hope your cat is doing well, Luke.
