What is

"world orthodoxy"?

John,

The term "world orthodoxy" commonly refers to all of the ecumenist churches such as the EP, MP, JP, OCA, and soon to include the ROCOR. I prefer to use the term "worldly orthodox" myself. :)

I'm sorry, but being the son of a ROCOR Priest, I have always been taught against ecumenism.

Well, that was an unnessary comment on my part in the first place, and contrary to my own hopes and prayers as well. Please forgive me for any offence.

John,

"World Orthodoxy" is another label developed by those
who feel they need to seperate other "Orthodox Christians"
from themselves. It creates a sense of superiority, on
their part, and only causes further division, rather than
being the living Icons that Christ has called all of US to be.

I attend an OCA church, and I have yet heard, in all my time,
discussions amongst any of the members, or clergy, about
ecumenism, or the desire for it.

I am surmizing that we, like all other Orthodox Christians,
are trying to live the life that Christ called us to, rather
than debate many of the things, issues that you will read
on this board. We just don't have the time, or maybe,
me included - don't have the intellectual power to comprehend
the significance of such issues, when we are trying to
heed the call of Christ.

With humble bow,

Rd. Chrysostomos

There is an example of a sense of superiority & not from the Traditionalists!

Who caused the divisions? Who lifted the anathemas? Who changed the calendar? Who has tried to unite with heretics? Who is to blame?

Nicholas,

I don't get where there is any superiority among any of us.
I guess I am an advocate of being "one in Christ" as
Orthodox Believers. If given the choice of being a living
Icon of Christ is superiority, then I will take that label and
wear it proudly. The big difference is, it won't be because
of anything I am, or have done, but Christ within me - the
hope of glory. It won't be because I think I am superior, or
that I have some sort of "Truth" that the lesser "Orthodox"
don't have.

Like I said to OOD one time. Thank God your father brought
you up in the OCA Church. IF he didn't, perhaps OOD would
not be OOD at all, but another Protestant, Catholic or
worse yet, agnostic or not believe in God at all.

If you hold the truth, then BE the Truth, don't banter about
like some rooster who thinks he is all that. Don't push
away the very people who are most likely your closest
brothers in Christ, but you don't accept them as that, due
to their supposed beliefs. Heck, for all I know, I could
be more traditional then you...But who cares? Traditional?
So what, maybe I honor God with my lips, but my heart
is far away from him. You don't know, you just go by what
I say, but God knows our hearts and we cannot hide from
him. From everyone else, sure, we can put on a facade,
we can dress up, talk the talk, but end up not walking the
walk, and who is all the more better for it?

Unfortunately, there are "traditional" jurisidictions who
don't have communion with each other over something
or another. And they have their "reasons". Why don't
they at least merge?

My family and I are traditionalists. We attend an OCA
Church in Washington State, and the very fact that it
is "New Calendar" makes us, worldly orthodox. No, not
our lives, but our attending a "New Calendar" Church
makes us unfit as Orthodox and relagated to those
"worldly orthodox". Too bad, my family doesn't go
to any OCA Church in Alaska, they keep the "Old Calendar",
but then again, they are ecumenists, darn! You can always
find something to seperate yourself from another if you
tried hard enough.

The "True" Orthodox numbers are getting smaller and smaller
as they seperate themselves from amongst themselves.

How many times I heard the praises of Archbishop Gregory,
and now can only find denunciations. How quickly the tide
turns.

What was once defended vigilantly, is not relegated to the
"heretic" trash bin.

While everyone banters about on this board, who is
acceptable, or not acceptable as "True Orthodox", the
world perishes. How sad.....

Are our priorities truly straight? Do you really have the Truth?
If so, why are not more people coming to it, as they did
throughout the history of the Church?

Things to ponder, but hopefully act on....

Nuff said.
