THE 'MARK' OF CAIN

Post by Nathaniel Kapner »

And Cain said, "I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond upon the earth;
and it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay
me." And the Lord said unto him, "Not so. Thy everyone's slaying
shall be the discharge of vengeance seven times. And the Lord God
set a mark upon Cain that no one might slay him." [Hebrew rendering]

IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. AMEN

My dearly beloved Orthodox Christians, we have before us a most
fearsome scene, probably one of the most fearsome scenes in the
history of mankind. A 'mark,' [the Hebrew word signifies 'a marking
out'] was set [the Hebrew word entails a 'proclaiming'] upon Cain
that an easy death would not come as gain for Cain, but that his
life should be prolonged that the punishments inflicted on him might
be commensurate with his crimes.

"The shew of their countenance doth witness against them," said the
prophet. Indeed there is a 'proclaiming' sign upon each one of us
manifesting an inner state. The son of Sirach is most wise: "A man
may be known by his look and by his countenance. A man’s excessive
laughter and gait shew what he is."

"And the Lord God set a mark upon Cain." St Basil explains: "This is
the seventh punishment, that the punishment may not be hid, but that
by a plain sign proclamation may be made to all that this is the
first doer of unholy deeds."

The first doer of unholy deeds? If Cain initiated the first of
unholy deeds, how many unholy deeds have followed since? And how
many doers of unholy deeds have succeeded in concealing their unholy
deeds? None. For before the punishment, appears the 'proclaiming'
sign that is written on each one of our faces. The show of our
countenace, our look, our excessive laughter, and our gait acts as
a forerunner of the way that people will relate to us and how God
Himself does and will relate to us.

"To all who reason rightly the heaviest of punishments is shame,"
observed St Basil commenting on the mark that was placed upon the
forehead of Cain, a 'mark of shame.'"There is nothing hidden that
shall not be revealed," said the Master, "and that which is done in
secret shall be shouted from the rooftops," the Judge of all mankind
concluded.

No one shall escape. The shouting from the rooftops already begins
with the show of our countenances and the end of that proclamation
of our secret sins will indeed, (for the Master will not be
gainsayed), be announced by neighbors, friends, and enemies upon
the rooftops of newspapers Internet sites and history books.

I expect my beloved Orthodox Christians that soon, very soon, before
the not so merry month of May 2006, the enemies of the Russian
Church Abroad, whose faces now have affixed to it 'the mark of
Cain,' will soon be made known before all. And I know exactly who
they will be.

Through the mercies of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who with the Father
and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth for ever and ever. Amen.

The Mark of Cain

I must confess, Nathaniel, that any argument in your last post totally excapes me. It seems indeed to be a denunciad utterly lacking any grounding in some relevance to some situation.

Um, in protlingo or nailthud--whichever is more applicable--do they have a PATRISTIC OR EVEN GOSPEL understanding of the CHURCH, not to mention autocephaly, autonomy, resistance, commemoration, COMMUNION, etc....No wonder the lack of understanding--NO GRACE!

You are caught, stating there is no grace in the MP. Does that mean no grace in the mysteries?

Once again, you have failed to understand (or perhaps chose to ignore) the reality of Church life in Russia.

Liturgical life in the Moscow Patriarchate is richer even than in ROCOR. Most parishes in Moscow have at least daily Matins and Vespers. They are open most of the day so that people can come, venerate the icons, and say a few prayers in the midst of their daily routines.

How many seminaries and monasteries have been restored? I cannot even count anymore.

If the Moscow Patriarchate is so evil and graceless, why do monasteries in their fold, such as Holy Trinity Lavra, Optina, Valaam, Solovki now have grace bearing elders?

Perhaps there are isolated incidents of communion being given to Latins, I have never seen this to be the practice in Russia. I was just again at the Kiev Caves Monastery last Sunday, and I distinctly remember a notice their stating that faithful should only write on the commemoration cards the names of those who are part of the canonical Church (ie. not Kiev Patriarchate, UOAC, or the Uniates).

Why you sit comfortably in your homes, judging others (in clear violation of Christ's commandments), just think, they are in their Churches praying, they are struggling to further re-establish Orthodox Christianity in Russia. These "Catacomb" groups are invisible. Yet, I can walk in the center of Moscow during the working week and at 5pm, I will hear the bells ringing, calling people to Vespers or Vigil. These "graceless" people are not spending their free time on the internet gossiping and obsessing over this quote or that quote or focusing on the past sins of their bishops.

No one denies that there are problems in Russia and even in the Russian Church. But my experience tells me that wherever there are people, there are problems. That is the reason we can only find salvation in Christ and in His Church.

PS It did not take me great courage to right this, just common sense!

THE TOWER OF BABEL

Post by Nathaniel Kapner »

"And they said, Come let us build a tower whose top may reach unto
heaven and let us make to ourselves a name. And the Lord came down
to see the tower which the sons of men built." [Genesis 11]

IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
AMEN.

"Where Thy temple stood will rise a new building, the terrible tower
of Babel will be built again," said the Grand Inquisitor to the
meek and lowly Christ.

My dearly beloved Orthodox Christians, Feodor Dostoevsky who penned
these lines in 1879 foresaw what still remains unperceived by many.
And what was it that he foresaw? None other than that the "Church"
would become the new Tower of Babel - that same tower that the
Lord in times past came down to see and then destroy.

And what was this Tower of Babel that the Lord came down to see?:

"And the Lord said, Behold there is one race and one lip of all,
and this tower they begin to build. And now nothing will be
restrained from them which they have imagined to do."

This tower of olden times was a humanistic enterprize to reach the
things of heaven not as God knows heaven to be, but a heaven made in
the image-inations of man.

Dearly beloved ones, Tzar Nicholas II was shot on July 16 1918. Oh
that fateful day! On that day began the beginning of our most
lamentable fate - the scattering of the One Holy Catholic and
Apostolic Church.

Yes this was a great evil. The Church had lost her restraining power
in the person of the Orthodox Tzar now lying in a pool of blood. The
gentle 17 year old Anastasia, the youngest of the three daughters,
lay huddled against the wall, covering her head with her arms. This
my dear ones is now our precious Orthodox Church, lying in a pool of
the blood of schisms and covering her head with arms of protection
against the assault of World Wide Ecumenism.

With the scattering and routing of the Apostolic Church, the
Bolshevik murderers of the Orthodox Tzar began to build a new
"Church," a new "Tower of Babel" which would reach unto heaven
rather than calling upon heaven to reach down unto man. The
Bolshevik atheists would have the kingdom of heaven their way not
Christ's way. And they chose a new Nimrod, a new hunter whose
kingdom like Nimrod would begin in Babylon. [Genesis 10]. What was
his name? Sergious Stragorodsky. What was his son's name if thou
canst tell? Stalin.

"We have taken the two edged sword of Caesar, and in taking it have
rejected Thee," the Grand Inquisitor declared to Christ.

Surely the Declaration of 1927 was exactly that, the "taking of the
two-edged sword of Caeser." The one edge, Caesar. The second edge, a
Caesar-enchained Church known as the Moscow Patriarchate.

What can we say, we who await the ROCOR bishops' vote this coming
May of 2006 of either a PRO MP vote or a CONTRA MP vote?

Just this. The Tower Of Babel which the Bolsheviks built remains in
place in the Sergianist/Stalinist Church known as the Moscow
Patriarchate. And we who are Contra MP call upon the Lord of heaven
to again come down and see what bolshevik men began to do in 1927
and are zealously continuing to do in 2005/2006.

And may the Lord in His coming down to see, annihilate a ROCOR/MP
union that would make the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad of one race
and of one lip with the MP blasphemers.

God forbid it. May God forbid it.

Amen Edward excellent response. It never fails to amaze me, that we, so called Russians living in the States forget the struggles of those in Russia. We sit and debate issuse and can't even agree on who the leader or person we choose to follow today will be. So thank you for being the source of reason around here
