Forthcoming Pilgrimages

The Holy Sites of Serbia

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus, the Cathedral Parish of St. John the Baptist in Washington, DC, is pleased to announce a pilgrimage to the holy sites of Orthodox Serbia. If God grants, it will be from October 17 to November 2. The approximate cost of trip is $2,000 (entire package).

Tentative Itinerary:

Oct. 17 - Friday: Departure from Washington DC/Dulles Airport.

Oct. 18 - Saturday: Arrival in Belgrade by mid-day. Bus transportation to hotel for rest, and/or brief tour of downtown. Dinner.

Oct. 19 - Sunday: 8:00 am: liturgy in St. Alexander Nevsky Church or St. Sava Church. Lunch. Visit to Novo Groblje cemetery and pannikhida at Russian Chapel at gravesite of Metropolitan Anthony Khrapovitsky. Visit to Ruzica church and Sv. Petka church at Kalemegdan. Dinner.

Oct. 20 - Monday: Travel to Valjevo (1.5 hr from Belgrade). Tour Cheliye Monastery and St. Nicholas Church in Lelich (sites of St.Justin Popovic and St.Nikolaj Velimirovich resting places respectively). Return to Belgrade.

Oct. 21 - Tuesday: Visit to selected Monasteries near Belgrade at Topola, Oplenac and Arandjelovac. Return to Belgrade.

Oct. 22/23 - Wednesday-Thursday: Travel to selected Monasteries in Central Serbia: Zicha, Manasija, Ravanica, Crna Reka, Sopocani, Djurdjevi Stupovi, Gradac. Stay at Hotel next to Sopocani Monastery or at Mountain Kopaonik (ski resort).

Oct. 24-27 - Friday-Monday: Arrive in Kosovo and visit Monasteries: Gracanica, Pech Patriarchate, Bogorodica Ljeviska church, Decani. Lodging in one of the monasteries.

Oct. 20-30 - Tuesday-Thursday: Arrive in Montenegro and tour Monasteries: Moraca, Milesevo, Cetinje, Ostrog (3 afternoons will be free, lodging is planned on the Adriatic Coast, lodging in tourist resort, to be determined).

Oct. 31 - Friday: Travel to Belgrade (visit on the way one or two Monasteries, to be determined) Arrive late to Belgrade.

Nov. 1 - Saturday: Free day in Belgrade if desired to rest and visit friends and relatives....or return to Washington (we can still organize something if desired).

Nov. 2 - Sun: Early morning departure for Washington.

I wish I had the money to go on a trip like that especially to Jerusalem.
