Obama to God: "Bring It On?"

Post by Ian »

April 1st, 2010, Obama in Portland after passage of "health reform":

http://prescriptions.blogs.nytimes.com/ ... rmageddon/

"So, after I signed the bill, I looked around.

"I looked up at the sky to see if asteroids are coming. I looked at the ground to see if cracks had opened up in the earth. It turned out it was a pretty nice day. Birds were still chirping. Folks were strolling down the street."

Now the Republicans can't do that stuff. So who was he really mocking here? Was this a "Bring It On" to God?

Cracks in earth? April 4, Sunday, the "2010 Easter earthquake":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Baja_ ... earthquake

Electric service was disrupted across most of the Imperial Valley.[36] In Calexico, California, Fire Chief Peter Mercado said that there was structural damage, leaking gas lines and damage to the town's water system, but that no one was hurt.[33] A Calexico Police Lieutenant said, "Downtown is going to remain closed until further notice. I honestly doubt that it will reopen soon. You've got a lot of cracks. You've got a lot of broken glass. It's unsafe for people to go there."[33] The Calexico border crossing on California State Route 7 and a section of Interstate 8 were both closed.[36]

In El Centro, California, gas leaks, water main breaks, and collapsed chimneys and balconies were reported.[4]

He also got his asteroids, a 15 min. giant fireball over 5 Midwestern states (Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio), on April 24:

The fireball was visible for about 15 minutes beginning about 10 p.m., said the National Weather Service in Sullivan, Wisconsin, just west of Milwaukee.

"Well before it reached the horizon, it broke up into smaller pieces and was lost from sight," the service said. "Several reports of a prolonged sonic boom were received from areas north of Highway 20, along with shaking of homes, trees and various other objects including wind chimes," it said.

April 20th, the BP oil rig explosion off our coast.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w ... 113708.ece

The oil is gushing from BP's sunken Deepwater Horizon rig at 25,000 barrels a day and could reach 50,000 barrels a day, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Earlier estimates had put the leak at 5,000 barrels a day.

Professor Ian MacDonald, an ocean specialist at Florida State University, said the new estimate suggested that the leak had already spread 9 million gallons of heavy crude oil across the Gulf. This compares with 11 million that leaked from the Exxon Valdez tanker when it hit a reef off Alaska in 1989.

Hans Gruber, a Miami University researcher, said that satellite images of the slick on Friday showed that it was three time bigger than estimated, covering an area of 3,500 sq miles (9,000 sq km), similar in size to Puerto Rico.

Ian,

Code: Select all

These are extremely loose associations-- or non-associations-- and certainly take several unrelated events out of context. For example, your original quote by President Obama was a rejoinder to Republican John Boehner's idiotic comments about American health care reform being a harbinger of "Armageddon." It was not intended as a theological statement at all.

Why is it that so many Republicans-- even decent Orthodox Christians--were so entirely supportive of a Republican President like George W. Bush bombing Iraq back to the Stone Ages on false pretexts in 2003-- with casualties in the hundreds of thousands-- while adamantly opposing attempts by our government to provide health insurance to the millions of Americans who have had no health insurance? As if Donald Rumsfeld's multi-billion dollar "Operation Shock and Awe" was a Christian policy initiative, while providing health care to the poor is not?

As for the recent tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, it appears that the lack of proper safety regulations for deep water drilling in the Gulf is largely a result of longstanding corruption within the Minerals Management Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior-- especially prior to July of 2009 when President Obama's own appointee assumed the Directorship of MMS (and issued strict new ethical guidelines for a department that was essentially an industry lap dog under Bush and Cheney.) The details of this MMS history are still sketchy-- largely because former V.P. Dick Cheney has refused to disclose the minutes of his secret energy task force meetings with the oil industry-- but it appears that Chris Oynes and Dick Cheney, himself, were involved in blocking the implementation of proper safety regulations for deep water rigs like the Deepwater Horizon.

I certainly have my own doubts about the theological views of Mr. Obama-- which I posted here at the St. Euphrosynos Cafe way back in January of 2008-- but, please, let's not get too caught up in wacky right wing conspiracy theories that pass for theology in Evangelical Tea Party circles. As I have said before, when it comes to the two most important commandments of Christ-- to love 1) God and 2) humankind-- modern Democrats are, at least 1-1. Modern Republicans are 0-2...Both political parties miss the mark in various ways.

"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways"

It's quite interesting to observe you singing the praises of Obama and the Democrats after all your silly carrying on a couple years back about him possibly being the Antichrist. Implying that self-serving Democratic politicians love humankind is a bunch of tripe as well. Sanctioning the murder of the unborn, as well as homosexual marriage, is hatred of the most diabolical sort, not love. Furthermore, many prominent Democrats gave their blessing to Bush's imperial war, or have you forgotten? Hillary and Kerry both voted to give the president a blank check to go to war. In fact, 29 Democratic senators voted in favor, including Joe Biden, who of course Obama selected for vice president, and only 21 against. Rahm Emanuel, Obama's chief of staff, was unabashedly for the war in Iraq as well.

So let's get this straight. Obama feigned to be against the war and made all sorts of false promises about how the minute he got in office the troops would be coming home. Yet he chose Biden, Emanuel, and H. Clinton to key positions in his administration, who were all in favor of the war. What about all the Democrats who supported Clinton and Albright's immoral and unjust war on Serbia?

You don't really expect us to take anything you say seriously, do you?

I haven't had a chance to look at all those links posted by Ian, but he has made a great effort here for which he should be applauded.
Of course no Youtubes are going to fit exactly. Usually I give some leeway for they aren't made by people of really close like minds.
If some new insights come through then it can be worth it to watch.

I figured this was an evangelical product but then saw a classic image of the Sacred Heart, so who knows who made it?
There ARE some interesting points like the zip code.
[I always notice that infamous number lurking around on addresses or license plates whenever i feel harassed by demons, so I do sit up and pay attention to any appearance of that.]
However, the goddess Ishtar has nothing to do with the Statue of Liberty and that whole analogy is squished to fit into too inaccurate of a mold.
Ishtar was the later version of the Sumerian goddess Inanna. Why didn't they pick her? This is where these current scare prophecies get beyond the bounds of any reality.
I studied ancient Mesopotamian religion and have seen the re-modeled Ishtar Gate as well as browsed around the site of ancient Babylon extensively. It's not sinister at all but fascinating! The temple of Marduk is as I recall a small ziggurat type structure. I just saw it from the road but it was not a tower. So the video filmmakers are overlinking the stories again.
These fundamentalist Christians and Mormons both over-stretch that use of the word Babylon - usually construing it as the Catholic Church - pitifully ridiculously.

My favorite part except for the picture of Jesus which was doubly welcome after all the devil images and Obama photos - I don't see that many in 5 years as I avoid looking at anything with him on it! - was the little box of subtext saying Babylon will be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah. That is the one analogy in the film that bears sharp scrutiny !

I liked the picture of Nostradamus but the verses quoted were not remotely clearly connected to 9/11. They sounded to me to be talking about some FUTURE event.
Let's face the truth: the destruction of the two NYC towers was not the pivotal event of modern history. It feels important right now to no one but Americans.
The rest of the world was not affected except adversely. While a dramatic event, it was hardly as apocalyptic as they are trying to say.
In short, someone writing all those centuries ago in Provence would NOT be likely to write a lot if any verses about the destruction of 2 modern buildings in an as-yet unheard of future nation as important enough to merit such disproportionate attention. Certainly other events are more worthy of note present, past and future, like these earthquakes, volcano in Iceland, etc. if one were writing about these couple of decades.

P.S. I vastly dislike that masculine, rough sculpture. It's called the Statue of Liberty but looks like a product of communist sculpture from the Soviet era!

If it was given by France, why not a state of the Blessed Virgin Mary?!
What an unimaginable difference that would have made for this country rather having that brusque ugly thing as a national symbol !
It IS the eve of Mother's Day so we should do well to remember HER especially now.

Why two mentions of the 911 in the Bible? 911 brings on the Bush (Gog?) Iraq invasion, the Iraq invasion creates the conditions for Obama to come to power promising peace, Obama (Antichrist?) is given the Nobel Peace Prize even while expanding war.

Bush as Gog of Magog:

http://www.templeinstitute.org/megillat-bush.htm

The following document, written and signed by the New Jewish Congress, The Sanhedrin, and The Holy Temple and Temple Mount Movements is to be presented to President George W. Bush upon his arrival in the land of Israel on the second day of the Hebrew month of Shvat 5768, (January 9, 2008).

This historic document, known as "Megillat Bush - The Bush Scroll" states unequivocally the stand of the Jewish nation concerning the indivisible integrity of the Land of Israel, a stand which has remained unchanged throughout four thousand years of history and two thousand years of exile.

Look at the Scroll itself:

"Esteemed Mr. George W. Bush, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal (Ezekiel 38:1), leader of the west!"

The highest religious leaders of modern Judaism think George W. Bush was the prince of Tubal?

Ezekiel 38:

1 And the word of the LORD came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. 4 “I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords; 5 Persia, Ethiopia and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer with all its troops; Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you.
7 “Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your companies that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. 8 “After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them. 9 “You will go up, you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.”
10‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “It will come about on that day, that thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil plan, 11 and you will say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are at rest, that live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates, 12 to capture spoil and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places which are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired cattle and goods, who live at the center of the world.’ 13 “Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?’”’

Now there are a few problems with that, but what if Bush isn't so much the Gog of the Old Testament as the Gog of the Book of Revelation?

Revelation 20:8:

And after the thousand years, Satan will be released from his prison, 8 and he will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

Now, in Orthodoxy, this thousand years isn't after a 1000 year reign of Christ on earth but the time when Satan's power to deceive was restrained by God (by way of monarchy even a pagan monarchy like imperial Rome, and especially Orthodox monarchy from Constantine to 1917).

http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index. ... on_go.html

Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their "common faith" (Christianity) and told him: "Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East. . . . The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled. . . . This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people's enemies before a New Age begins."

Is their common faith really Christianity? The Bush family are generational members of the occultic groups like Skull and Bones and Bohemian Grove. A confrontation "willed by God", is that God or the "god of this world" (Satan)?

http://www.theatlantic.com/past/docs/is ... obbins.htm

The name Magog is traditionally assigned to the incoming Bonesman deemed to have had the most sexual experience, and Gog goes to the new member with the least sexual experience. William Howard Taft and Robert Taft were Magogs. So, interestingly, was George Bush.

So G. W. Bush (if Gog) would literally be "of Magog" (G. H. Bush) both of whom invaded Iraq preparing the way for:

http://barackocoin.blogspot.com/2008/10 ... -here.html

In keeping with this tradition an American expat from Chicago, who now lives in Greece, prepared a fitting tribute to Barack Obama, immortalizing his nomination for U. S. President in the form of this unique coin that's lovingly called the "Baracko". It can be purchased in gold, silver or copper.

The Baracko coin in the banner shows the bold, beautiful profile of Obama decked out in the lion headdress of the mighty Hercules. On the left, “backing” Obama, is the majestic Greek coin portraying Hercules in his renowned lion-skin cape that has come to symbolize courage, invulnerability, and winning against all odds.

[...]

The photos above show Barack in a toga during his student days. We see him at the Temple of Hercules in Jordan during his trip to the Middle East in July 2008. And of course there was Denver where his nomination speech was given against a splendid backdrop of Greek pillars.

The flipside of the Baracko is emblazoned with: "Barack Obama U.S. Presidential Candidate 2008". Around the rim is the famous "YES WE CAN!" motto in five languages: English, Spanish, Greek, German and French. This haunting rallying cry has circled the globe and captured the hearts and imagination of a broad spectrum of people on every continent.

That Obama has a large following outside the U.S. is no exaggeration. He has inspired people to go to "great lengths" to support his ideas. View the "Yes We Span - Bridges for Obama" video below and see for yourself.

Wasn't that impressive? The images, the music, the spontaneity! Think about it for one brief moment; groups of Americans and local fans of Obama gathered at bridges on 5 continents and 36 foreign countries on the same day just to show their enthusiasm for Obama as "The Bridge to a New Future". Awesome!!

(a) Let him learn to write backwards, with either hand.

(b) Let him learn to walk backwards.

(d) Let him practise speaking backwards: thus for "I am He" let him say, "Eh ma I".

(e) Let him learn to read backwards. In this it is difficult to avoid cheating one’s self, as an expert reader sees a sentence at a glance. Let his disciple read aloud to him backwards, slowly at first, then more quickly.

Cyprian, you are wrong on all accounts, as in our previous debates. I am not singing the praises of Obama here. Go back and read what I wrote. I said that I have long had doubts about Obama's religious views, and I posted some observations about Obama and the Antichrist long before it was in vogue. You pointedly disagreed with me in that previous discussion from 2008. What I am saying here is that we need to think clearly about these issues-- not misinterpret what people say, or indulge in bizarre, loose associations about various disastrous events.

.
Implying that self-serving Democratic politicians love humankind is a bunch of tripe as well.

Code: Select all

Social Security? Medicare? Medicaid? These were all "humanitarian" Democratic policy initiatives which were fought tooth-and-claw by Republicans for years. On the flip side, the Republicans have primarily fought to cut taxes for their wealthy constituents during the past half-century. Call it what you will, but the Democrats have certainly been the party of "humanitarians" in modern times.

Sanctioning the murder of the unborn, as well as homosexual marriage, is hatred of the most diabolical sort, not love. Furthermore, many prominent Democrats gave their blessing to Bush's imperial war, or have you forgotten?

How deluded you are, Cyprian. What we now know-- by Dick Cheney's own public confession last year-- is that the Bush administration openly lied to Congress and to the American public about the pretexts for invading Iraq in 2003. This is all a matter of historical record now. Cheney, himself, said that he and Bush always knew that Iraq was not involved with the 9/11 Al Qaeda attacks on the U.S.-- contrary to their repeated public pronouncements on this matter in 2003 and even later.

Wrong again, Cyprian. Obama didn't "feign" to be against the war. His opposition to Operation Shock and Awe was a matter of public record, and he was absolutely correct about that Wolfowitzian chicanery by Bush and Cheney. The current situation is different than that in 2003, in that Bush and Cheney destabilized the Persian Gulf-- which is now in danger of being over run by the Shiites. There is also a smoldering civil war, engendered by the U.S. de-Baathification of Iraq. Mind you, I am not saying that the Baathists were good. Don't misinterpret my comments on that subject. It is one thing to oppose a pre-emptive invasion of Iraq in 2003, and another matter to abruptly pull troops out of a nation and region that have been destabilized by reckless U.S. military policies.

Yet he chose Biden, Emanuel, and H. Clinton to key positions in his administration, who were all in favor of the war. What about all the Democrats who supported Clinton and Albright's immoral and unjust war on Serbia?

The bombing of Serbia was an abomination. No argument from me on that issue. I never agreed with Bill Clinton and William Cohen's approach to Serbia and the Albanian KLA.

You don't really expect us to take anything you say seriously, do you?

Cyprian, I think that we all have ample evidence from our longstanding Euphrosynos Cafe debates that you are not a man to be taken very seriously. I have appreciated your references to some of the Patristic literature, but you routinely misquote people, and you routinely misinterpret complex historical and scientific issues.
