Looking at the prayer again, I see I was mistaken.

The last two sentences of the prayer are;
"Deliver me from soul-corrupting harm, praying fervently to Christ. To whom glory and worship are due, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen."

I read St. John's book on the place of Mary in Orthodoxy, as Nicholas suggested. Good suggestion. However, if the book mentioned the teaching that Mary was sinless, I overlooked it.

Your suggestion about the prayers, fasting, etc. is excellent. I attended Forgiveness Vespers on Sunday, and thought about beginning to fast. Of course, thinking about it is all I've done so far -- Protestant self will in action.

What do you wish you'd known before you became Orthodox?

I am a Protestant considering conversion.

I am trying to take this very slow; becoming Orthodox is obviously a lot different than going a few blocks down the street to another Protestant denomination.
