Re: OCA Cathedral in NYC hosts ecumenical event with pagans
Well this is a bit saddening. If it were at a neutral place where everyone was invited, I could see the Orthodox participating in a controlled way. But hosting this event within the hallowed ground of an Orthodox Church seems sacreligious. I am questioning my own jurisdiction (OCA) after this, but I ...

Re: EP giving Patmos Orthodox Church to Roman Catholics?
Isn't Patmos the same island that St. John was exiled to where he wrote Revelation and then died? I don't think he would appreciate part of such a holy site being given to the Roman Catholics. While kindness, good will, and love are important, they can never be done in a context contrary to what we ...

Re: Should the Orthodox Church Allow Marriage to Heretics?
I know that after the Second World War, when Russians were scattered throughout the world, The Metropolia and ROCOR would marry Orthodox to Heterodox spouses rather than letting their sons and daughters fall into sin by denying it. This was the decision of the Bishops at the time. What I do know ...

Re: Should the Orthodox Church Allow Marriage to Heretics?
True bishops also make true errors... unfortunately... even on pastoral matters. They could have also done a civil wedding and wait until the spouse converts, which would not have debased the orthodox marriage.

Re: Should the Orthodox Church Allow Marriage to Heretics?
What should the Church actually do, do you think? What's the pastoral answer? Just consider an area temporarily lost and start again with monastic settlements and evangelization by example?

Re: The Gardening Thread
I've toyed with the idea of growing my own coffee for a while. I was thinking something very fancy, high-quality, and expensive that I could harvest myself and be forever set with the greatest coffee in the Bay Area. Does anyone here have any experience with or advice when it comes to growing coffee ...

Re: Religious Persecution of Christians by Government Laws
In regards to the legally sanctioned persecution, my godfather told me a story from his Army days during the Vietnamese War. The military had a national day of prayer every year where all of the troops would be divided together to pray. Well, when doing the dividing, they only divided people based ...
