Please pray that I have safe journeys as I travel to go learn iconography from one of the great Russian masters of the Byzantine style, Vladislav Andrejev.
From a biography on the master iconographer: Vladislav Andrejev is acknowledged to be among the finest iconographers in the world. After studying fine art in Russia, Andrejev was inspired to create liturgical art. During the Soviet regime in Russia, he was not able to express this art freely, so at great risk, he journeyed to the wilderness to study with anicon-writer, who was also a monk. An arduous emigration to the United States led to the perfection of a specific egg tempera technique and the founding of the Prosopon School of Iconology.
