Is protesting abortion "social activism" and therefore not good for an Orthodox Christian to participate in?

There's nothing wrong with it.

There's nothing wrong with it, as long as it is only moderate involvement, and not stuff like protesting abortion mills.

I don't know.

Orthodox Christians probably shouldn't be directly involved, but should rather focus on prayer, fasting, etc.

It's absolutely wrong. It's a very worldly way of thinking about things.

Activism and Protecting the Innocent

I was thinking about something last night, and I'm struggling with it. Here's the problem:

1) If you are an Orthodox Christian and vehemently denounce what Clinton/NATO did to Serbia, and take an active role in speaking out and against it and protesting it, you are doing a good thing.

2) If you are an Orthodox Christian and vehemently denounce abortion, and take an active role in speaking out against it and protesting it, you are an "activist," which is considered a bad thing.

In 1, you are applauded for defending the innocent publically. In 2, you are admonished for getting involved in "social activism" and are told that such things are better taken care of in prayer. Now, of course, I have nothing wrong with 1... what I don't understand is why 2 gives some Orthodox Christians such problems? Don't both decry atrocities justly?

Note on the poll--for the first couple, I of course don't mean that one would just "protest," obviously prayer, fasting, etc. would be part of any Orthodox Christian's life. What I am asking about is whether it is wrong to even take part in writing publically against it, maybe putting bumper stickers on your car, making it an campaign issue, etc.

I agree, there is nothing wrong with social protest as long as you're not hurting anyone. In fact, you might be saving lives. Our female secualr culture has become so brainwashed by the abortion industry, we have people BELIEVING embryos and fetus' have been reduced to merely "a few tablespoons of blood and tissue". Without protest, or at least some sort of political activism how will these women be shown otherwise?

In Christ,
