Letter of E. A. Raevskaya to all members of the ROCOR who oppose unification with the Moscow Patriarchate

I would like to address all the members of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia who oppose submission (“unification with”) the Moscow Patriarchate.
Dear brothers in Christ--wake up! No matter how difficult and painful it may be, we cannot, must not, close our eyes to the present state of affairs. We are members of the Church--her body, and not speechless and faceless sheep. We all have a full right, even obligation, to make our grievance known, if the circumstances call for it.
I understand full well that some of you may be worried about losing your churches, in which you may have been married, baptized your children, and buried your loved ones, where you may be parishioners for decades (not suspecting that there was ever any danger of losing them). I understand the clergy too, who depend financially on their parishes and on the Synod. Let the example of our brothers in Russia help us here, who by the thousands showed no fear in this regard. May the Lord help us all, while there is still time.
Our Church Abroad has always been like a lighthouse in a storm for us, during our difficult life in exile. It was always like coming home to us, home, where we felt and knew with certainty that it was “the pillar and foundation of the truth.” Each one of us could always count on this home, no matter what the circumstances of life might be or what country we lived in, and its authority was unshakeable for us. So how can we look on so calmly when they are making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear right in front of our eyes? The Church Abroad always had moral authority even for the MP, although a silent reproach as well (remember the amount of reprinted books, teachings, sermons, and opinions from the Church Abroad’s press, not to mention that the authors also belonged to the Church Abroad, and not at all to the MP). In the MP there are very many good and worthy priests and parishioners, but alas, it is not they that are behind the wheel, and they are beside the point in this present matter. A great number of faithful in Russia, even till this day, have no way of knowing what’s going on or of understanding the crux of the matter from original sources about the origin of the MP and what the Church Abroad is all about. The responsibility lies not on them, but on us, for we are the ones who have full knowledge about where the problem is. And to whom more is given, more is required.
It seems to me that many of us, who don’t read what the MP writes, are not informed well enough (at the present time, it would be very helpful to become acquainted with the joint documents worked out by the MP and the ROCOR). Some simply don’t have access to them, others simply don’t want to be bothered, being lulled to sleep by wishful thinking… but it would be very helpful to familiarize oneself with these things. For example, they say, without even blinking an eye, that the Declaration of Sergius in 1927 is the same thing as Metropolitan Anastasy’s epistles of 1942. It would seem that St. John of Shanghai served molebens for the victory of the Soviet Union and collected donations for the Soviet Army!!! In other words, St. John used all of his strength, both spiritual and material, in order to help the atheistic authorities to achieve victory. (It makes you wonder why then, when the threat of Communism was hanging over him, he personally managed to get passage for many Russian refugees to get to the USA?) Is there no limit to the lies that they will write in these documents?
I have heard that the MP has removed the name of St. Joseph of Petrograd from the list of New Martyrs. The Church Abroad, at least for now, still prays to him. So I would like to know how the ROCOR is going to consider him if, after they join the MP, their patriarch (who is divorced, by the way, and used to serve in the KGB with the code name “Drozdov,” as we all know), demands that our bishops remove the name of this New Martyr? Think about it! It would also pay to remember the unethical behavior of the MP when they took our holy places in the Holy Land away with such crude and criminal force.
I must also say that all of the MP’s grandiose expressions about the “great patriotic war” are just as unacceptable for me, full as they are of lies and nonsense, which are sweet as honey to the souls of our deceived people. During this war, for the first time in our entire history, our soldiers defected to the side of the enemy by the millions and tried to organize freedom forces to fight against the government of their own country. During this war, people met the Germans with flowers, throwing them at their feet (this is something that I personally saw on the news then, many times), expecting that they would free them from Soviet torture. And these freedom forces began to be organized in different countries and among different groups of people, not out of a desire to commit treason, but from a sense of patriotism and duty to our suffering and deceived homeland. This was not only a natural extension of the White movement, but it became an absolute necessity, in order to act as a shield between the Soviet authorities and slavery to the national-socialist regime. (By the way, I remember how after the war one young German related to me how he, being an officer, was tormented by the fact that he was required to give an order to fire at row upon row of people who were marching toward them with no weapons, and how behind them there were the commissars with their weapons at the ready. It was “cannon fodder” on the march; if they weren’t shot from the front, they’d be shot from behind… Glory to our poor Russian soldiers, to their bravery and sacrifice, but not to the victory of evil which lasted for so many years afterwards! Playing on the patriotic feelings of the exhausted Russian people, and relying on the well played role of the MP, praising the victory was supposed to elevate the feeling of pride among the people and make them forget for a moment the horrible conditions of their lives.
There’s no point in my repeating myself concerning ecumenism, the foundation of the MP itself, etc. There has already been a lot said about these things, well explained an in much detail, and indeed a lot is still being written. From the depths of my soul, I simply ask personally each and every one of you for whom the truth is dear, God’s truth, for the sake of which we have been in exile for four generations now, to take a good look and understand just what exactly is going on, and to what they have decided to bring us. Remember how many years we carefully kept the ordinances of our First Hierarchs! In particular, I have the good fortune and honor to remember all of them personally, starting with Blessed Metropolitan Anthony Khrapovitsky through Metropolitan Vitaly (with whom the Synod of Vladyka Laurus has shamefully, incomprehensibly and regretfully behaved just exactly as if the “party bosses of the USSR” would have).
Don’t just lower your heads and give up; don’t be afraid to stand up for the Church which was looked up to by all of the victims of the Bolshevik persecution of the True Church, who were persecuted by both the government and by the MP, i.e. our New Martyrs. We just don’t have the right to do otherwise!
Let us recall the words of the troparion, written in the good old days of the Church Abroad to the holy Hieromartyr Metropolitan Joseph of Petrograd: “In the days of cruel persecutions against the Russian Church, thou didst hold fast to the truth of the Church, and departed from thy brethren who stood not in the truth.”

ПИСЬМО Е.А. РАЕВСКОЙ КО ВСЕМ ЧЛЕНАМ РПЦЗ, КОТОРЫЕ НЕ СОГЛАСНЫ СОЕДИНЯТЬСЯ С МОСКОВСКОЙ ПАТРИАРХИЕЙ
Мне хочется обратиться ко всем членам РПЦЗ, которые не согласны подчиняться («соединяться» с) МП.
Дорогие братья во Христе – очнитесь! Как бы трудно и больно не было, мы не можем, никак не должны, закрывать глаза на создавшееся положение вещей. Мы члены Церкви – тело Её, а не безмолвные и безликие овцы. Все мы имеем полное право, даже обязанность, заявлять о нашем несогласии, если обстоятельства нас заставляют.
Хорошо понимаю страх некоторых потерять храм, в котором, быть может, венчались, крестили детей и отпевали близких – десятки лет были прихожанами (не видя, что именно опасность потерять его нависла над ними). Понимаю и священнослужителей, зависящих материально от Синода и прихода. Пусть нам всем поможет пример наших братьев в России, которые тысячами и тысячами этого не побоялись. Да поможет всем нам Господь, пока еще есть время.
Наша Зарубежная Церковь всегда ведь служила всем нам как бы маяком в буре не легкой нашей жизни в изгнании. Это был наш отчий дом, в который все мы стремились, чувствуя и твердо зная, что это и есть «Столп и утверждение Истины». На этот наш отчий дом, во всех обстоятельствах и в любой стране мiра, всякий из нас мог полагаться и авторитет его был для всех нас непоколебимым. Так неужели же будем мы спокойно смотреть, как у нас на глазах меняют кукушку на ястреба? Зарубежная Церковь являлась до сих пор для МП и моральным авторитетом (вспомните количество переиздаваемых книг, наставлений, проповедей и высказываний из печати Зарубежной Церкви, не указывая при этом на то, что авторы именно принадлежат к ней, а вовсе не к МП), но и молчаливым укором. В МП есть очень много достойнейших и хороших священников и таких же прихожан, но, увы, не они у руля и не в них дело в данном вопросе. Ведь масса верующих в России, по сей день, не имеют возможности узнать, разобраться и понять в чем суть дела от самых источников, от зарождения МП и чем является Зарубежная Церковь. Не на них лежит ответственность, а на нас, так как мы-то отлично знаем, в чём тут беда. А кому больше дано, с того и больше спрашивается.
Мне кажется, что многие у нас недостаточно осведомлены, не читая того, что пишет МП (в данный момент полезно ознакомиться с документами совместно выработанными МП и ЗЦ). Одни не имеют просто доступа, а другие предпочитают их не знать, убаюкивая себя надеждами ... А полезно бы было ознакомиться со всем этим. Например, в них, глазом не моргнув, приравнивается декларация Сергия 1927 г. к посланиям 1942 г. Митрополита Анастасия. Оказывается, Св. Иоанн Шанхайский служил молебны о победе Советского Союза и собирал деньги на советскую армию!!! Иными словами – Св. Иоанн прилагал все силы, духовные и материальные, чтобы безбожная власть одержала победу. (Спрашивается зачем Он, когда нависла опасность коммунизма, лично выхлопатывал русским беженцам въезд в США?). Есть ли граница лжи в этой писанине?
Как мне известно, МП изъяла из списков Новомучеников Св. Митрополита Иосифа Петроградского. Зарубежная Церковь, пока еще, молится Ему. Спрашивается – каково будет отношение к Нему Зарубежной Церкви, если слившись с МП, их патриарх (кстати – разведённый и служащий в КГБ под фамилией «Дроздов», как всем нам известно), потребует и от наших изъять имя Новомученика? Подзадумайтесь над этим! Хорошо тоже не забывать безчинства МП, с которыми МП отнимала у нас Святые места на Святой Земле, по разбойничьи и грубой силой.
Должна сказать, что мне также неприемлемы эти воспевания МП, также полные лжи и небылиц « Великой отечественной войны », которые должны послужить сладким мёдом на души обманутого народа. В этой войне, впервые за всю нашу Историю, солдаты миллионами переходили на сторону врага и там пытались организовывать освободительные движения от собственного правительства в их стране. В войне, в которой люди встречали немцев с цветами, бросая их им под ноги, (это я лично многократно видала тогда в новостях), ожидая от них освобождения от советской пытки. И вовсе не из чувства измены, а именно из чувства патриотизма и долга перед страждущей и обманутой Родиной стало создаваться освободительное движение в различных странах и в разных группировках. Это было не только естественное продолжение Белой борьбы, но и необходимость стать щитом между советской властью и порабощением национал-социалистической властью. (Кстати мне вспоминается как, после войны, один молодой немец мне рассказывал о том, как он, будучи офицером, мучился, будучи вынужденным давать приказ стрелять, а на них шли рядами люди, просто под руки, без единого оружия, а в спину, сзади их, шли комиссары с оружием на перевес. Двигалось «пушечное мясо» если не спереди, то сзади ... Слава бедным русским солдатам, их храбрости и жертвенности, но не победе зла на еще долгие годы ! Играя на патриотических чувствах измученного русского народа и опираясь на хорошо сыгравшую роль МП, восхваление победы должно было поднимать чувство гордости в народе и заставлять его не всматриваться в ужасные условия их жизни.
Не стоит мне повторяться в отношении экуменизма, создания самой МП и прочего. Обо всём этом много, подробно и очень хорошо у нас уже было сказано, да и сейчас продолжают писать. Я просто от души прошу всех, кому дорога истина, та Божья истина, за которую вот уже четыре поколения стояли мы в изгнании, каждого лично, вникнуть и понять что, собственно, происходит, и куда нас собрались вести. Ведь мы столько лет бережно хранили заветы наших Первоиерархов! В частности я имею счастье и честь помнить всех их лично, начиная с Блаженнейшего Митрополита Антония Храповицкого и до Митрополита Виталия (с которым, к величайшему стыду, удивлению и прискорбию, Синод Вл. Лавра поступил именно и полностью по правилам и примерам «партийных боссов СССР»).
Не сдавайтесь, опустив головы, не бойтесь постоять за ту Церковь, к которой тянулись все жертвы большевицкого преследования Истинной Церкви, как правительством так и МП т.е., фактически, наши Новомученики. Ведь мы просто не вправе так поступать!
Вспомним слова из тропаря, написанного в доброе, старое время Зарубежной Церковью Святому Священномученику Митрополиту Иосифу Петроградскому: «В годину лютых гонений на Церковь Российскую правду церковную удержал еси и отложился еси от собратий Твоих, в правде не устоявших».
