clarification on using one's name

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

I'm sorry Andy, I know your convictions are strong, but some of us really have little choice but to remain under cover......it's always a risk to reveal yourself......

Dear Katya,

I agree for women. Based on the reading of Holy Scripture, women should remain covered for obvious reasons. In Corinth, in St. Paul's time as in ours, the wicked targeted women.

Why else would the same St. Paul who taught that in 'Christ Jesus there is neither male nor female' would also teach a distinction in terms of covering? Clearly, he was speaking to a persecuted audience living in pagan times of extreme perversion and violence.

As for men, well, we were called by St. Paul to risk suffering for our faith openly.

The distinction is clear in Holy Scripture, and the application to this medium seems consistent with the intent of the passages and inherently practical.

Women are the target of stalkers - wicked men - so women cover themselves. Men are called to a different ministry to the world and go uncovered - suffering wounds outwardly as Christ suffered outwardly. Women suffer the wounds Mary suffered - inwardly.

In any case, if one does not provide their name or if one does, they should act as though they are well known in the public square.

My reasons for remaining anonymous has no basis in the fact that I am a woman. Rather they stem from who I am and the problem it would cause if were to post under my real self.

Since I have no desire to deal with the problems or deal with the constrictions placed on my "real" self I post under a paeudonym.....does that then lessen the value of my opinions or of what I have to say?

Dear Ekatrina,

Glory to Jesus Christ!.

By the reading of the Holy Scripture, in good conscience, can you understand how one such as me may feel compelled to:

  1. Provide my name
  2. Point out the Scripture, the command and analyze the context?

Application of St. Pauls commands are a matter of conscience. Time and again the Scriptures and the Saints point out that different people are called to do different things in Christ. They may seem contradictory, but if you search diligently and believe all things, you will find, or trust, they are never contradictory.

For a woman to withhold her name shows good sense. For a man to provide his name shows courage to follow the command of St. Paul to remain uncovered. Both give Glory to Jesus Christ.
