Cast YOUR Vote: Should Conspiracy be Banned from E-Cafe?

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Cast YOUR Vote: Should Conspiracy be Banned from E-Cafe?

Post by Matthew »

Should chatter about Conspiracy Theories be banned from both Private and Public group discussion on Euphrosynos Cafe?

YES: Please BAN all Conspiracy Theory chatter from the Forum, and let this be a forum whose Only focus is the TRUE ORTHODOX FAITH.

Yes: they should be banned but only from public threads, not private ones.

NO: They should not be banned at all: I think Conspiracy Theories are too important to neglect.

Here's my Vote:

YES: Please BAN all Conspiracy Theory chatter from the Forum, and let this be a forum whose Only focus is the TRUE ORTHODOX FAITH.

Symeon

PS. Having posted a few of these in the past myself, I see now that they are really unhealthy. Sorry to all of you for my starting all this off. I hope I can lead the correction of this error that I popularised on this forum. It would be something that could certainly posted in a private person to person message, but I think it is unhealthy in any of the group posting areas (be it the public ones or the "private members only" ones).

We've decided to move conspiracy theory posts to the private forum for controversial topics. If you don't have access please let me know.

Jonathan, according to the rules and guidlines of this thread, you must cast a vote. :D

Would you prefer a Total Ban on all group area posting versus political conspiracy theorising -- No Private or Public group areas
OR would you prefer
to allow this addictive and spiritually distracting topic to continue to be ensnaring us, robbing us of spiritual fruit, and draining our time.

Yes or No.

Moving it to private areas does not solve the crucial problem as I see it. This is a spiritually harmful past time to be consumed with. If people on this forum want to delve into it, let them do it on forums outside of E-Cafe where it is the meat and potato theme--such as the Alex Jones run forums. Not here, where we are meant to make this a serious forum for True Orthodox theology, ecclesiology, soteriology, etc.

I think that if we relegate conspiracy theorising to a private forum it will in no way discourage our members from wasting much time in this spiritually harmful pursuit. Let's focus on the serious and spiritually beneficial topics that are truly in the mainstream of Orthodox topics.

Does that include the conspiracy theories promoted in the mainstream news?

If you choose not to have access to the Controversial Politics and Social Issues Private Forum, then you have elected to say NO to all "conspiracy threads." If you wish access, then you have elected to say YES to conspiracy threads.

Besides, where do we draw the line for conspiracies? The diabolic conspiracy is always with us. Monopolies are conspiracies as are most criminal endeavors. Whenever the Democrats or Republicans gather together for their individual strategy meetings, could we not say that they have conspired to do something?

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Yes, it would include mainstream news reports as well. I am of the opinion that since there are such an abundance of forums out there where Orthodox can post their views on these theories, they go and do that there. However, there are very, very few places where True Orthodox Christians can find a strong, serious, and edifying spiritual meetings place where all is focussed on the most pure spiritual bread to feed the needy soul. Conspiracy Theories of any kind would fail to meet that criterion of good, wholesome spiritual bread. Hence, I move that we all agree to make Euphrosynos Cafe Forum a spiritual sanctuary for TOC believers who want to renew their souls minds by mutual encouragement in things pertaining ESPECIALLY to the True Orthodox Christian Faith.
