Metropolitan Anthony (Orlov) of RosOC has reposed.

Post by Suaidan »

Translated from their YouTube Channel:

Yesterday evening, the First Hierarch of our Church, His Grace Metropolitan Anthony (Orlov), passed away.
With him, the era of the Hierarchs of the Church Abroad passed away. The tragic fate of the great exodus of millions of people from Russia fell to their lot.
It is interesting and symbolic that the Church Abroad left Russia, led by Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky), and returned the succession to Russia through Metropolitan Anthony (Orlov), who became the last, fifth, hierarch of the Church Abroad.
We will always remember our Vladyka, Metropolitan Anthony, and remember that through him the apostolic succession was transmitted to us, the preservation of which is now entrusted to all of us.
We wish the Kingdom of Heaven, the repose of his soul in the heavenly abodes, and reunification with the hierarchs of the Church who preceded him, to our newly departed Vladyka Anthony.
Eternal memory!

Archbishop of St. Petersburg and North Russia Stefan.

Memory eternal! I spoke to Vladyka Antony a few times before his repose. I really liked him.

Oh ! Thank you for posting this news.
How old was Met Anthony [Orlov] ? Where was he located in recent years ? Did he move to Russia from Los Angeles ?

I didn't keep up and the E. Cafe was on the blink for awhile, so any news of his jurisdiction was not available.

there pictures of him or writings by him to add to this thread or to start another with ?

Memory Eternal !

He was 92 years old. He lived in St. Petersburg for the last 18 years of his life I believe. His sermons and pictures of him were on the "Tserkoye Govorit" channel on YouTube of the ROSPC.

Thanks for that information.
Why do you guess he relocated to St Petersburg ? He had supporters there ?

From when I talked to him, it sounded more like he had aspirations of restoring the Church in Russia, and also to get away from his enemies at Mansonville.

What do you mean by restoring the Church in Russia ? You mean what had been previously connected with Met Vitaly ?

And - who were Met Anthony's enemies, then ? Could you explain the sequence of Met Anthony's movements, to refresh our memories ? I would much appreciate that, as it's hard to recall after all these years !

Thanks !!
