Many years! Thank you for the photos. How heavy were those crowns? Where did you get married?

The crowns were a bit heavy but also awkward as they were gifts to our Church from Suzdal so rather than fitting they were very cumbersome and hence we had my godfather and one of the Readers that was present, a very good friend, hold them for us we went through the service.

We were married in the Cathedral of the Dormition in Colorado.

It was truly a blessing.

Thank you again for all your warm wishes and prayers.

I'm pretty sure that it's a Russian custom that the crowns aren't actually wore as they are in Greek weddings. I have never seen any photos of Russian weddings (or heard about any, including my own) were the crowns were actually place on the head. None-the-less, they were very pretty crowns.

I actually prefer the Greek custom as they typically keep the crowns (they are more like wreaths), and put them in a nice case. My wife and I had the thought of making floral arrangements to place on the crowns that we could keep, but didn't. We just did nice arrangements for our candles.

I purchased my wedding crowns (Russian-style) from Bulgaria and my wife and I wore them for the crowning instead of having our sponsors hold them. That seems to be the custom among Carpatho-Rusyns. We took our crowns home and have them prominently displayed.

When my husband and I were married "Russian Style", we did not have our own crowns. The church has a set used for weddings, and I have to say, I felt bad for our friends behind us, holding them for soooo long. Their arms really must have ached after awhile!

I've seen one photo in a book, were the crowns were attached to short poles so you didn't have to hold you hand up the whole time.

Natasha,

Lol, I think our sponsors had the same problems. They kept falling off our heads (especially mine), so eventually they had to be held on by people. At one time, not knowing that someone was holding it on, I thought it was slipping off and automatically reacted to (what I thought would be) catching it. It was pretty embarrassing to realise that someone was already holding it :)
