If there was one local church, and one only, in every place it would greatly increase church discipline and limit the tendency some have to 'hop' from 'jurisdiction' to 'jurisdiction'; sometimes picking up an award or elevation in the process.

On the other hand this will come with the arrival of the Anti-Christ, who will not brook dissent.

Neither appears attractive or Christian. :ohvey:

Re: Why does OCA have churches in Australia

Post by George Australia »

Unlike the Americas which historically is a mission established Church, Australia is solely a migrant Church and has never had missionary activity within itself. Australia is considered the territory of the Ecumenical Patriarchate (Church in the Diaspora) and apart from the Florinites, Matthewites, and Macedonians aknowledge that primal responsibility for the Church in Australia is the EP, who's representative here is the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia. There is much more of a tendency not to argue the point with the EP about who has primal responsibility for Australia than perhaps in the US, so Churches here tend defer to the EP's administrative decisions (such as refusing the Jerusalem Patriarchate permission to establish a Church, on the grounds that there already is a greek speaking Church in Australia).
