Actually America had not even been discovered 1000 years ago. Only 600 years ago when, "In Fourteen Hundred and Ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue".

So, you see how inaccurate the Internet and even so-called "official and mainstream" news sources are!

By the way, StephenS, there was one small mistake you made, it is in calling him Pope Francis the FIRST. We never call him by a number unless there eventually follows another Francis. That is why when Pope John Paul was elected in the 70s nobody was calling him Pope John Paul the First when he was elected. Only when his immediate successor, Karol Wojtyla, took the name Pope JP2 did they call his predecessor "First". Right now there is no need for any such distinction since he is the first one to take the name Pope Francis in history.

Yes, the press made a lot to do about nothing.

The new Pope Francis immediately showed his approval of things charismatic when he asked the people at St. Peter's to pray for him, and then he bowed his head for that moment of silence. That was a first.

Note how he also bowed his head and knelt down to accept prayers from both Protestant Pentecostals and Catholic Priests alike at this Catholic and Evangelical Renewal convention of the "III Encuentro Fraterno organizado por la fundación CRECES (Comunión Renovada de Evangélicos y Católicos en el Espíritu Santo)." That Catholic Charismatics have met and prayed at the Vatican is not new, but this was the first Pope to ask the laity to pray for him at his first appearance immediately following his election.

Although the press coverage of Pope Francis' first mass was good in his insistence that the Catholic Church should return to its ancient biblical roots, congratulatory messages confirm that Pope Francis is an Ecumenist. Has he changed overnight? Will he continue the ecumenism of the previous Popes, especially the World Day of Prayer in Assisi?

  • We congratulate Pope Francis ...There is much in his record that reassures us about the future. Cardinal Bergoglio maintained a close relationship with the Jewish community in Argentina. He celebrated various Jewish holidays with the Argentinian Jewish community, including Chanukah where he lit a candle on the menorah, attended a Buenos Aires synagogue for Slichot, a pre-Rosh Hashana service, the Jewish New Year, as well as a commemoration of Kristallnacht, the wave of violent Nazi attacks against Jews before World War II. He expressed strong solidarity with Argentina’s Jewish community following the deadly 1994 bombing of a Buenos Aires Jewish community center.

Pope Francis, as Cardinal Bergoglino of Buenos Aires, Argentina, celebrated Chanukah in December 2012.

  • "Argentine Catholics and Jews came together to celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas together at a ceremony attended by current Pope and then Cardinal of Buenos Aires Jorge Bergoglio."

Thanks for the research everyone !

EW ! That endorsement of A. F. [appropriately named !] was nauseating to me.
Clearly the Jewish bankers bailed out the Vatican a few times over the last half century or more, or there
would not be this SLAVISH subservience of recent Popes kowtowing to Jewish interests.

Just by reading this alone, I can see what sort of compromiser the Pope may be.
I mean compromising truth in exchange for the proverbial mess of pottage.

He looks distinctly UNIMPRESSIVE : UNSpiritual in my individual opinion.

By the way, I realized after reading the posts yesterday that he must be named after St Francis Xavier
rather than St Francis of Assisi.
The famous missionary to Goa, India, was one of the first followers of the founder of the Jesuit Order.
Clearly, the Pope could not be named after the founder of the Franciscan Order !
Therefore, it's a good choice out of all the Jesuit Saints except for the really impressive
St Carlos Borromeo. That would have been better.
Nonetheless, I feel relieved it was not St Francis of Assisi.

Why aren't there any other Cardinals superior, though ? That seems to be really a question.
This prelate seems middle in every way, middling, average, no spark, no light from his countenance.
Does not inspire any awe or reverence.

Pope Benedict had a distinguished appearance. But his successor is blahs-vile, I fear.

His receiving a blessing from Charismatics -! and protestants at the very first Mass is a terrible omen.
Thanks for that info Maria.

By the way it was John Allen, Jr of whom I spoke once here about him being a young untried journalist overnight becoming
"THE expert" consulted by all American media channels regarding Popes and Vatican functioning.
I don't pay any attention to him ; his spiritual father was I believe that horrendous "Franciscan",
Fr Benedict Groeschel, a notorious liberal - to the point of being a shocker.
I couldn't remember Allen's name offhand. I started a book by him which included this autobiographical information...
and returned it immediately to the library ! A total waste of time.

I visited the Church where Francis Xavier is entombed some years ago. A very different character from his Assisi namesake. Learning and remembering more and more reading the thread, thank you all very much.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the false Pope Francis, a Jesuite and friend of the Jews, is only a layman in ecclesiastical garments.

Yes, in another thread, Barbara confirmed that Pope Francis did choose St. Francis of Assisi.
http://news.yahoo.com/francis-turns-cha ... 11747.html

St. Francis was born: Francesco di Pietro [Peter] di Bernardone.

Thus those who believe in the prophecy of St. Malachy feel vindicated.
