Criminal Mind, NCIS, New Technology, Smart Phones, etc.

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

In his book 'The spiritual life and how to be attuned to it' Saint Theophan the Recluse explains the activity of Angels and Demons, and the help and intercession of the saints, by reference to the aether. He writes:

'... at one time I began talking with you about an exceedingly subtle element that is finer than light. It is called aether. Let us suppose that it exists as a matter of fact, and not just in name. I recognize that such a very subtle element exists, and that it penetrates and passes everywhere, serving as the smallest particle of material substance. Along with this, I suppose that within this element soar all the blessed spirits - the angels and Divine saints - who are themselves garbed in a kind of raiment made of that very same element. The covering of our soul (understand this word to refer also to the spirit, which is the soul of our human soul) is also made of this very same element. The soul itself is the immaterial spirit; but it's covering is made from this ethereal immaterial element. Our bodies are coarse; built that covering of the soul is very fine and serves as the intermediary between the soul and body. Through it the soul acts on the body, and the body on the soul. Just keep in mind that the soul has this very fine covering, and that our souls have the very same kind of covering as do all spirits. from this it will not be hard for you to conclude that this omnipresent element, very fine, out of which these coverings are made and in which all spirits soar, is the intermediary for the intermingling of our souls and these spirits.'

Can you provide the specific section or page?

Chapter 13, 'Life according to the spirit' - pages 78 and 79.

It may be that the saint was basing his teaching on the general scientific beliefs of his time, or it may be that he had direct spiritual experience that had proven to him the truth of the existence of the aether. I wish he had let us know!

It was just taken for granted then, so I'm not saying we HAVE to believe in it just because a Holy Father did, but it fits in with the general notion of a materialistic paradigm taking over from one that allowed more readily for spiritual beings.

I also wonder if this extreme materialism of the 20th century was not a preparation for the more recent rise of quantum theory and its integration with neo-pagan beliefs, that promise a more holistic and less mechanical worldview, by depriving man of a science allowing for the supernatural, building a thirst for such a worldview in the future.

So we have

thesis - aetheric based classical physics including spiritual realities - Deism

anti-thesis - aether banished, atom based reality without supernatural elements - Atheism

synthesis - quantum soup, multi-dimensional thought-created reality that supports 'spirituality' - Antichrist religion

Do not be shocked by those who teach new doctrines but seem to be worthy of credence. Stand solidly like an anvil under blows. A good athlete suffers blows but wins. St Ignatius.

arcmode, you are a very welcome new member here !
Don't be discouraged by anything.

Thanks for the explanation. But what is exactly a "tablet" ? The name sounds so repellent to me that
I can't bring myself to look up some wikipedia definition. In fact, I don't like wikipedia usually. Only resort to
it for some things, but prefer to hear from a real person.

Why is it more popular than a PC or laptop ?

I know it's a smaller screen held in the hand, but what does it do that makes it so popular ?
I don't even know enough about this field to realize what the average person is doing out there.

You mean PCs are needed by "gamers" - the name sounds like gamblers !
But these other things don't work for "games" ?
Totally absurd life these days, that people are enraptured in this incredible UN-reality and don't want
to live a real life. It's like they prefer a lie to the truth.

I am still nervous about this changeover. I want my PC to endure !

To the original topic of the thread, I plan to write another comment, when I have a moment.

Barbara, with your post, you gave me a real insight into something:

I wish I didn't know what any of these things were either!

It really is a very freaky world we inhabit. It's not natural.

Mystery of iniquity - world built by evil spirits, a lie of an existence

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Ok. Found it. Not the same page, though. Must be a different edition. Good thing you mentioned the chapter. It's been awhile since I read this book. This sounds like a spiritual perspective. Many saints, because they have reached theosis are able to see beyond the physical. I would certainly trust St. John to be accurate in his explanation. I'm sure it wasn't his own view but something that was passed down from other holy people. I doubt that scientists would even care to discuss this realm...only the ghost hunters who consider themselves to be scientists because they use equipment to measure. But, they're the ones in your third category.

Arcmode, please give the reference to this quote.

Furthermore, I ask your prayers as my laptop just went south and I am using an old PC that might fail at any time.
I am not a computer tech so I am at a loss.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
