Hanging out at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP and I saw a strange, moving fine mist in the distance and photographed it with a 30 second exposure. I noticed the colors and knew it was an aurora, which is very rare this far south!

One of the best displays Ive ever seen. For a while it was like we were under a light dome. No matter what direction we looked we could see lights shimmering and pulsating. Coronas stretched high into the sky over head.

Marvelous display! There were times when there wasnt a square inch of the sky that didnt have activity. The aurora were easily visible during twilight. At times the corona moved like a river of overhead light.

Back at one of my favorite spots in Yellowstone Park, in Hayden Valley overlooking the Yellowstone River. Aurora was visible shortly after sunset, with a nice substorm at around 23:00. Kp=8, not much moon, not much cloud - what could be better!

Well it is 4 AM and I have yet to sleep. I can hear my husbands alarm going off from the bedroom. We waited and waited for the aurora last night and we werent disappointed. It was almost 2 AM when the Northern Lights finally started to dance, but the show was well worth the wait. The light pillars were some of the tallest I have ever witnessed. We could see the curtain of lights stretch the whole length on Camano Island. Whidbey Island is truly an amazing place to live. Nikon D610 14mm f/2.8 ISO 1250 20s
