I was thinking of another complication in any ROCOR/MP union... there are ROCOR parishes worldwide, what would happen to these parishes? I highly doubt that ROCOR would allow their parishes to go into the Churches in whatever areas they were in (for both cultural and theological reasons). On the other hand, I'm not sure that MP parishes all over the world would be acceptable to anyone, and since the MP is in communion with these other groups, they cannot just act "as they please," but must be careful when they take a step.

Nicholas, just saw your post... That's a good point, certainly that would not be ok.

Does that mean you change your answer?

I'm so torn on these issues. Reunificaiton with the MP, how to accept converts, good and bad ecumenism, etc. I'm not qualified to give more than my own, most likely uninformed opinions and try to do what the Church and my conscience dictate.
Lately what I've been thinking about though is how quickly people these days throw around words like "heretic", and how quick people are to find these heretics and break communion with them. The fact of the matter is this: there have been much worse heresies throughout the history of the Church than the "heresies" people in some of the more extreme groups call "heresy". The classic example is Arianism! Did Arianism cause a huge break in communion? Where the ex-Arians looked at with scorn for years after they rejected their misguided heresy?
Were some of the Bishops of ROCOR also heretics in the 1930's for remembering Patriarch Sergius in the liturgy? Was Metropolitan Philaret of ROCOR a heretic while in the MP? Was his father?

The Russian revolution and its effects caused a terrible, terrible tragedy- a tragedy whose results cannot be looked upon strictly from a legalistic point of view. So to paraphrase Father Seraphim Rose in this matter "We have to be open rather than closed in regards to the Moscow Patriarchate".
Despite differences in opinions, despite what may appear as large differences in ecclesiology, all of the Orthodox jurisdictions of the world(I think all!) hold onto the same doctrinal truths. Sure, some of them are truly "losing their salt", but is this cause to presumptuously say they have no grace? We will be called to face up to such accusations at the great judgement, for our slanders against Christ's Church if we are wrong.

-that's all...just some rambling.

This statement is not an "ultimatum." It is simply a statement of convictions, and a request.

It will also be noted that the statement mentions that a

Dear all,

Greatings on the Feast of Pentecost,

My name is Nicholas Richard and I am happy to be a part of your list. I have been watching for some time but just joined. I have been living in Japan for the past two years and recently married a Japanese girl back in New York (in the Synod Cathedral 93rd St.). I am ROCOR but my wife was baptized here in the Japanese Orthodox church. Obviously there are no ROCOR churches here but we plan on attending a ROCOR church when we move back to the states.

I just wanted to say how disapointed I was to see such a percentage voteing the options for leaving ROCOR if we joined the MP. The newest vote for the last option is mine. I am equally dissapointed by many who are impatient and want our bishops to join immediatley as I am with those critial of union and would abandon ship if it happened. I personally dont think we are close to a time for it, but I will follow our wonderful bishops in what they decide. Ultimatly, I think everone should just chill about the issue and let our bishops deal with it in their due time.

Anyway, again I am happy to be a part of this list.

In Christ,

Nicholas

PS those little faces are great
