My GOA Priest says that this type of strict fasting is for monks and not for the laity. And further, that if anyone questions you about whether you are fasting that your response should be "None of your business!"

And your priest also has confession, what, 2 times a year?

CANON LXIX of the 85 (THE APOSTOLIC) CANONS:

If any Bishop, or Presbyter, or Deacon, or Subdeacon, or Anagnost, or Psalt fails to fast throughout the forty days of Holy Lent, or on a Wednesday, or on a Friday, let him be deposed from office. Unless he has been prevented from doing so by reason of bodily illness. If, on the other hand, a layman fail to do so, let him be excommunicated.

Yep. TONIGHT Actually from 5:00 to 5:30.
