Dear Nicholas,

Thanks for the articles!

(Yes, Macedonians are Slavs - and so was old Philip-One-Eye and his prodigy of a son, Alexander. Macedonians remain Slavs, though most of the Western world considers them "Greek," in its ethnic rather than it's national sense. It is an error).

Shall we consider that an oops?

In Christ,

Makis

In the Russian tradition, the faithful carry home the "Thursday Fire" - the candles that we hold during the reading of the 12 Passion Gospels on Holy Thursday night. The flame is used to light the lampada in the family's Icon Corner where it remains burning for the whole year.

Does this mean that at some point during Holy Week (or whenever) our icon corner light is supposed to be extinguished?

I plugged this thread over at OC.net, so I thought it only fair that I plug their thread as well. :)

Re: Post subject: PASKA and KULICH recipes!

Post by sue57 »

Last Sunday, I signed up at church to make a dessert for the breaking the fast meal, after Easter liturgy. I wasn't at all sure what I would make, then I happened to see the April issue of Gourmet magazine. There is a really nice article on the "foods of Russian Orthodox Easter." There are recipes for kulich, paska, roasts, and uncommon stuff like watercress salad with quail eggs! I found a recipe for poppy seed shortbread, and I'm really excited to make it. I hope it turns out, I'm not much of a cook!
