I still really want to go to Platina. My family and I live in Monterey, which I don't think is all that far from there (maybe a couple of hours). I became interested in the monastery after reading Youth of The Apocalypse. That book is amazing. I don't know where everyone on this board came from, but I came from the same culture that the monks who wrote that book were from, and it should be dropped on clubs and cities like emergency aid! It's dead-on.

I'm reading Youth of the Apocalypse now and, like Justin here, was a part of the subcultural landscape the authors were a part of. I'm really enjoying the way how it is written, at first explaining what is wrong with the Nihilist/Nietzchean way of thinking and how it only creates a void. Then it goes on to show how Christ is the only viable means of filling that void and everything else just creates more of a void. It's quite effective, I think. I'll definitely be passing this on to some friends once I've finished reading it.
