Don't be so quick to believe Freemason propaganda about itself. They haven't "been around since the middle ages". The earliest known records of it date back to 1717, and the first Church Council wich condemned it was in Cyprus in 1815.
We shouldn't feed the Freemasons' delusions about themselves.

Correct on all counts, George Australia.
And they are rapidly evaporating here in the US. At least in three states I've seem them resorting to 'radio advertising' to boost membership. That 's unheard of and against their own rules. I hear of some lodges where the average age is 70+ with no members under 40.

Thanks for the 1815 council reference; I did not know about that.

I have made a rule for myself, and will share it. The tendency towards rude and abrupt responses is one I find very unwelcome anywhere, but to find it repeatedly on Christian forums is particularly disappointing. If posters cannot be courteous I will not engage.

Freemasonry has been repeatedly condemned by local Orthodox Churches. That should speak to people, especially Orthodox believers.

Indeed it has, and it should, because of its own brand of "universalism" where all "truths" are the same, as well as its own blasphemous rituals which promote this universalism.

Nothing more than that.

Dear Friend,
I've read and re-read this thread to try to see what you might be referring to as 'abruptness', 'discourteousness', and possibly 'unfair', and I must conclude that I am at a loss.
Could you please clarify what you are referring to? Perhaps the poster came accross in a way they didn't intend.
George

I'm not a Mason, nor is any member of my family, but I've read Kipling prose and poetry which leads me to read this line as a jest referring to the "Square" and "level" used in masonry (both literal building and the organization.) 8)

Yes, Ebor, gphadraig is using "mason-speak"...to what end I cannot fathom myself either.
