Abraham Lincoln, whose body was incorrupt and exuded a beautiful fragrance decades after his death, was a believer that America suffered for her sins of slavery in blood in the civil war, and that was a just recompense for her cruelty to a race of people unjustly enslaved.

I have heard other orthodox casually comment that Communism was perhaps a just reward for the pogroms - I don't think that needs to be a "teaching of the fathers."

I might counter against it in that the sun shines on the just and unjust alike... But it is very human to see that there is a certain balance; Hitler reaped what he had sown, and I think in fairness the Russian people through Pogroms reaped what they had sown in Communism.

It is certainly stupidity, even in a historic sense, to be hate filled for one will in some way reap what one sows.

Lincoln was no saint and he was as racist as anyone, in fact he wanted the slaves out of the country, free them and ship them to Africa was his plan. Slavery would have ended in time naturally if Lincoln had not broken the Constitutional law and split the country over this issue and all those Americans would not have died. Lincoln needlessly starting the Civil War was truly a heneous crime.

consensus of the Holy Fathers........... They same Holy Fathers who would have condemned your bitter vitriol with respect to Iconophili

on the whole, I find this forum to be a very poor spokesman for Orthodoxy. If I had depended on this forum to shape my early opinions on Orthodoxy, I would probably have become Jewish instead.
