I caught sight of this story of the saving of a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes when an unquenchable fire raged all around in a military base in Spain. I thought the final paragraph, posted below, was encouraging for all the faithful. Though Orthodox will not cotton to this idea of veneration of a statue or of the Apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes, still, I see this as a fascinating event. The same could have happened to an Orthodox Icon of the Mother of God.
It probably has somewhere but someplace remote so the world has not heard of it.
This event, which occurred on August 24, 2015, was posted in the UK Guardian, so the word spread everywhere.
This remarkable story, where even the flowers in vases surrounding the statue were untouched by the fire, is encouragement for all the embattled souls put on the defensive by a society unraveling at a fast pace revealing the dreadful boldness of the legions of darkness :
"this story reveals Our Lady’s special protection of this statue, however simple and unpretentious. And everyone can learn a lesson from this. Unexpected events may occur that set fire to a world full of threats and evils. In the near future, in the midst of disasters that we cannot even imagine, Our Lady—especially Our Lady of Lourdes–will go through them, fearless and untouched, with the symbols of the devotion of the faithful. And those who believe, even if they are a minority discredited by the atheist or unbelieving majority, will be recognized amid the tragedy as Heaven’s beloved children."
