In science, it is generally understood that out of many conflicting hypotheses, only one can be true (or all are false). In art, it is generally recognized that out of many possible drafts of a poem, only one can be true to the poet's feeling (or all are to be rejected).
But in religion today we are witnessing a very strange phenomenon: the belief. well-nigh universal among religious people in this (though not in any other) century, that every form of religious consciousness, every kind of belief in God, either approximates to, or expresses part of, the truth. This book examines the nature, origin and future destiny of ecumenism, the prevailing religious philosophy of our time.
