Note: I'm not going to identify my jurisdiction, but I will say it's a member of SCOBA.
I'm curious as to what the traditionalist Orthodox Churches teach on giving to your church? I know the OCA is now beginning to teach tithing, as well as the Antiochians. It wouldn't surprise me if it's related to the influx of Protestants. Now, teaching tithing is not a bad thing, in my opinion. If it keeps a parish from turning to lots of fundraisers, especially gaming, I'm all for it.
A close friend attends a very ethnic GOA parish, and I've other friends that attend very ethnic Antiochian parishes. The general impression these friends have is that while many ethnic Orthodox will give generously for specific things (new building, icons, vestments, etc.), they won't give much toward basic parish expenses (priest's salary, utilities, etc.). This in turn causes the parishes to have either huge fundraisers, or expect on parish social hall rental revenue to cover parish operating expenses.
What about the traditionalist parishes?
Thanks!
