UPDATED: Vespers at Notre Dame Cathedral - January 21, 2007

Next weekend as well Bishop Seraphim will be in Ottawa, this time at
the invitation of Archbishop Marcel Gervais of the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Ottawa. Archbishop Gervais has invited Bishop Seraphim
and the Orthodox communities of Ottawa to come to a vespers service at
Notre Dame Cathedral on January 21st at 3 pm to celebrate the Week of
Prayer for Christian Unity.

Archbishop Gervais will be retiring this spring and is making this
event with all the Orthodox a major occasion in his Archdiocese.
Besides inviting all the Orthodox clergy and their parishes, he has
invited all 114 of his parishes to send representatives. Improving
relations between Orthodox and Catholic Churches is the top
inter-Christian priority of both Pope Benedict XVI and Patriarch
Bartholomew of Constantinople (many of you will recall that they met
and prayed together in Istanbul last November). Patriarch Bartholomew
is regarded by the Orthodox as head of the Eastern Orthodox Churches
worldwide, as "first among equals" among the other heads of Orthodox
churches.
Here is what is planned:

Order of Service

  1. The Entrance Procession will form at the back of
the Cathedral. Led by Cross and Candles, the various ministers will
join Bishop Seraphim and Archbishop Gervais for the procession, during
which the Choir will lead us in a bilingual version of The Church?s
    One Foundation.
  2. Archbishop Gervais will welcome everyone and lead
us, with the help of our cantor, in the opening rite.
  3. Then, an Orthodox choir will sing ?O Radiant Light?
(location can be in the corner of the upper balcony near the
sanctuary or in the front of the Church).
  4. Notre Dame choir, with the cantor, will lead us in
the singing of Psalm 141 with the refrain I let my prayer rise before
you, like incense in your sight.
  5. A psalm prayer will be offered by an Orthodox priest.
  6. The second psalm (Psalm 19) will be led by Notre
Dame choir (in English and French) with the refrain: Your words Lord,
    are spirit and life
  7. A psalm prayer will be led by another Orthodox priest
  8. The Choir will sing the Canticle, in latin, in
polyphonic style, on the theme of light and redemption.
  9. A psalm prayer will be offered by an orthodox priest
  10. The Gospel will be chosen by Archbishop Gervais and
read by one of the guests.
  11. All then sing the Canticle of Mary, led by the Notre
    Dame Choir.
  12. The prayers of the faithful will be read by reps of
the orthodox communities, with a sung refrain led by Notre Dame Cantor
and Choir, Kyrie Eleison, taken from Richard Proulx?s Mass for
    Ecumenism.
  13. An orthodox choir will sing the Our Father,
  14. Archbishop Gervais will invite Bishop Seraphim to speak
  15. Kiss of Peace
  16. Invitation to all present to a reception in the
    Cathedral Hall
  17. Archbishop Gervais gives the Final Blessing
  18. Organ Postlude

How Metropolitan Herman can head up a jurisdiction that sees this sort of thing as acceptable and at the same time smugly and with superior tone talk of ROCOR "returning" to the Church is quite beyond me.

When did Met. Herman say this? Can you provide a complete quote. I am not refuting it, but I would like to see it in context.

Greetings in the Lord!

Bishop Seraphim is my Bishop and if this is what is going on, I would like to know for sure. I can't seem to find anything on the official cathedral link?

In Christ,
Andrew

as always the ones causing confusion, dispair and keeping Gods children away from His Church can only speculate and lay claim to a couple of incidents throughout the world, and this meeting in canada hasnt even been proved. remember that man is not perfect, nor is anything that he has made even close to perfect( just good), as much as many of us/you would like for man and its rules to be perfect, it is Gods will that has the last word, for only GOD is PERFECT and everything else is stained and tarnished...dont believe everything you read. the Holy Fathers of the church even warn us Not to believe everything we see, either. Trust in GOD foremost and you wont be deceived...
"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world, rather than on Christ" (Colossians 2:8).

First, and Last, and Always
