Russian Orthodox Icon Dog Tags

Post by Waldemar »

Has anyone ever done any business with an outfit called Vegasbee.com? Are they reliable?

They sell an item that I have never seen before: Russian Orthodox Icon dog tags for soldiers.

You can see them here:

http://www.auctionworks.com/store/shop. ... p&c=367892

They are made of stainless steel. Icons available: Lord Jesus Christ, Theotokos, Guardian Angel and St. Alexander Nevsky.

We have two soldiers in our parish who are serving in Iraq and these look to be ideal for them and for my rough and tumble boys.

I've never bought anything via Internet auction, so what is this "instant money order" or "PayPal" business about?

Many thanks.

Waldemar,

I have dealt with both ebay and just recently with VegasBee. The store that they run seems to be good. I have bought a few things form them and like you was curious abiut the dog tags. Unfortunately I have not bought any of those dog tags and can not say wether soing so would be a good thing. I can say that this person is reliable and trustworthy as far as auctions go.

Paypal is an auction pay system that you sign up for and you can send the monies for the auction through their service through your checking account or credit card. the service is secure as far as I have not has any issue with it.

I hope that helps and I hope we can get an answer as to the correctness and the use of the dog tags. Hope this helps!

Hi Juvenaly,

Thanks for the information.

Here's a line from a news item about the use of the icon dog tags:

"Some soldiers wear Russian Orthodox icons on their dog tags, fingering them when the bombardments around Grozny intensify."

From: http://www.s-t.com/daily/08-96/08-19-96/a06wn029.htm

Seems like these personal icons might be just as useful for the daily wear and tear of spiritual warfare as well.

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." (Romans 13:12)

I'm in the military and recently had dog tags made.... It creates a quandary when the "religion" part must be filled out. Not being comfortable having them put "Greek Orthodox" (since I'm culturally much, much more American, the Greek being 100 years ago or so), or "Russian Orthodox" (since I have no Russian blood in me), I had them put "Eastern Orthodox." "American Orthodox"just doesn't make sense yet.

Waldemar,

I've bought icons from Vegasbee and I've been satisfied. I don't know about the dog tags, but the icons I recieved were exactly as represented, and I got them pretty quickly.
Tip: If you can use Paypal (very annoying to set up originally), you will get your order much sooner.

if you can't use paypal (as I can't) it is best to pay with Cashier's Checks or MoneyOrders as orders are shipped immediatly (usually) with those as with personal checks tehy have to wait for it to clear the bank.
