If it does not warrant investigation, then why ask 3rd parties about it???

It doesn't matter if he was an Archpriest--you cannot just make someone a schemamonk on day 1. Levels of monasticism and levels of priesthood are irrelevant. Bishops are not all schemamonks, which would be the case if levels of priesthood had anything to do with levels of monasticism.

Please note that I do not subscribe to "Old Calendar Ecumenism" and believe that only the Synod of Archbishop Kallinikos is the canonical GOC of Greece. I do believe, however, that we can break down barriers and misunderstandings through prayer and discussion on forums such as this one.

Nicholas,
It has nothing to do with canons. It has to do with the practice and tradition of the Church. The Orthodox Church just doesn't do that type of thing.

I thought at one time long, long ago a monk was just a monk. No levels or ranking to aspire to; no little schema, no big schema.
On the subject of the schema itself was it not a gift from an angel? And with the monastic life often called to angelic life, would it not stand to reason that all monks would be clothed in the schema?
I was told ( though actually haven't read specificly) that the Greeks don't have the same custom with the monastic 'levels' as the Russians do. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

My understanding is that in the Greek tradition the Great Schema does not require the same kind of withdrawl into solitude as it does in the Russian tradition.
