He is a brother of many sisters, though!
I thought this was about sisters and being a brother in a dysfunctional family? Juvenaly having more sisters than you and I combined would know about this I would think.
I, too, have a sister

Squabbling children is hardly disfunctional; it is normal, the ordinary result (surprise) of sin. Perhaps Juvenaly doesn't remember it sufficiently well, but I certainly see enough of it day to day to understand. Children jockey for position with the family as a matter of course.
And oddly enough, so do clerics and bishops, never mind all the lay "my cleric has more grace than your cleric." To the outsider, it tends to look quite hypocritical. I do not believe the claims that these things can be said in humility, seeing as how they are claims to a high place than those condemned. It is unseemly how much effort is spent in self-aggrandizing hand wringing about what everyone else's clergy are doing wrong. I don't want to hear about grace and who does or does not have it; I want grace itself. These claims can't make it happen.
CGW,
It is not a struggle for a superior position "my bishop has more grace than your bishop". That is the explaination given by and for those who want to ignore history, fact, and the simple reality which is the Church of Christ.
Quite simply, the Church has always taught that non-Orthodox beliefs are not of or from the Church, and that those men who invent or follow such things, are lost and divided by an enormous gulf from the Church and all Her Graces. This is why the Holy Fathers always acted quickly, like a physician to the spread of a disease.
Sure, people can act religiously and within a system that has all of the outward appearances of a Church, maybe even closely resembling it like has happened so often in history; but eventually arriving to the doorstep of utter bankrupcy, like those who ordain homosexual men to be "Apostles of Christ". We are sad to see this happen, but to ignore spiritual realities is equally dangerous for the faithful.
So make no mistake, the Church is something completley different from all these things and most often unrecognizable to someone who has been totally engulfed in the social-christian systems which always walk in step with the world and which have over time re-invented the Church in the image of man - not God.

Dear Nicholas,
While your question was posted to Orthodoxlearner, and while I myself belong to the Church of Greece (tsk, tsk, those graceless, schismatic etc. etc., although this "graceless etc.etc." has a lot of sympathies for the original standpoints of the old-calendarists), I take the liberty of answering for him.
You asked:
...how a traditionalist Orthodox mindset cannot be reconciled with the Antiochian OFFICIAL position of REQUIRING communing and concelebrating with known heretics
THERE IS NO WAY TO RECONCILE ANTIOCH'S OFFICIAL POSITION WITH AN ORTHODOX MINDSET, TRADITIONAL OR NOT, OR FOR THAT MATTER, WITH HOLY ORTHODOXY ITSELF.
Sorry for the allcaps, but there is no other way of stating it.
In Christ,
Makis
