And there are sources which say otherwise.
If indeed he knowingly commemorated Sergius, and that is far from proven, he would be the first saint (and he is not a saint as far as I know) in the history of the Church (that I am aware of) who knowingly commemorated a fallen heirarch. Which is why I don't believe it.
Saint Basil the Great for instance, while still a priest, broke communion with his bishop because he signed the semi-Arian document of Constantinople. And for anyone who doesn't know, semi-arian doesn't mean the document was Arian, but only that it had some confusing statements that could be interpreted as Arian. And his example is of no less value today as it was then - that fanatic self-righteous sectarian Basil!

Do you not accepted the new martyrs who commemorated Sergius?
