how to make a podriasnik

Post by sashaedwardovna »

I've been commissioned to make a podriasnik, but I don't have a pattern for one, and no one seems to be able to help me out. If anyone has one or knows where I can find one, please let me know. Also, the person I'm making it for wants it to be made of Greek silk, and I'm having a hard time finding that, too. So if anyone has any clues as to where I can find that, I would be much obliged. thanks! :D

You can try the sisters at the Convent of St Elizabeth in Jordanville, New York for a pattern. They may even be able to direct you to where you can get the Greek Silk. You can also try a place called La Lame in New York City. They carry a large variety of Church material. There is also the American Church Supply.....but I'm not sure where they are located.

THank you very much, but does it have Russian style podriasniki? That's what I'm looking for, you know, the rather form-fitting ones with the button on the side. I'll look into that book, though, thank you.

Sasha,

Did you ever find a pattern? I know someone looking for one too.

well, not a pattern per ce, a matushka friend of mine informs methat the most common way to make one is to find an old podriasnik and use that as your guideline, adding seam allowances and such. Lucky for me, her husband has an old beat up one I can use.

Just for the record, American Church Supply is located in a suburb of Chicago, IL. By the way the suburb is St. Charles. Just so everyone knows for future reference.
