I have run into a interesting situation.
A number of Russian Orthodox priest who seem to think that the teaching of the Parable pf the Good Shephard does not apply to them. They seem to feel that they do not need to go out into their community (and/or flock) and keep an eye out for those in "trouble" or in need --of any kind--. They seem to think that it is not part of their function to go out and help those in spiritual need.
Doesn't the teaching of the Parable indicate otherwise?
