The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Well I hope I can get away with this blameless act of self promotion, if it get pulled from the board-I'll understand.

Just wanted to let everyone in west-central Florida know, my husband and I are opening an ethnic grocery sometime in the next two weeks or so. I will post a link as soon as our website is up.

It is called "Balkan World" and we will be featuring a variety of of gourmet foods and gift items from the former Yugoslavia and beyond. We will have a full line of smoked meats, from Polish sausage to smoked bacon, as well as beer, wine, and other delicacies from Southeastern Europe.

You will also be able to rent/purchase Serbian language movies and we will offer a selection of icons and Orthodox Christian books and devotional items.

If anyone wants the address I will post it on the website.

Come visit when you're in sunny Florida.

Regarding the icons selection in your store, I hope you have Icons of Saints Justin Popovich and Nicholas Velimirovich along with our Great Father of Serbia, Saint Sabbas!

Tessa,

Where will it be in Florida? I went to a Protestant Bible College in Lake Wales for a year... I didn't much enjoy living there, but I'd like to visit again some time: I'd definately stop in. Also, will you be carrying (or able to order) books from people like St. Nikolai or St. Justin (in Serbian)?

Good luck with the store. Well, not luck, but I think you know what I mean. /\ :D

We're located in New Port Richey which is on the central gulf coast, Tampa Bay area. I will have all the info on the website. I hope to carry a large variety of Serbian, Russian, Greek, and other icons. Books are going to be limited at the onset due to financial reasons on our part, ahem, but I will be able to order. What I would REALLY like is if I could find more St. Nikolaj and St. Justin's works in English. (I read cyrillic at the rate of a kindergardner!)

Also...for Holydays and Saint day celebrations we hope to offer farm fresh lambs and pigs for roasting over the spit, and also if you are unable to we can have the meat roasted for you. More later. Thanks for the well wishing.

My family and I will definately be down to say hello. My husband is always on the lookout for good kasha :) , as for me, I miss those sweet loaves of babka from the bakeries in NY....
