Orthodox Theological Distance Education

Post by Nektarios »

I want to get my undergraduate degree in Orthodox Theology, but since I cant not actually attend a school because of my active duty service in the Marine Corps, do you know any Orthodox Seminary that offers a distance learing program for undergraduate studies for people in my situation?

Brother Veteran Nectarios...

"Semper Fi" (from an Army grunt),

Try Saint Andrew's College in Winnipeg. It is phenomenal! Loads and loads of writing papers (one learns VERY fast with this method)! VERY good school, and outstanding professors!

Saint Tikhon's in South Canaan Pennsylvania may have what you seek.

Not sure about St. Vladimir's in Crestwood.

Holy Cross may have something.

Where do you have the time for this? Marines are always busy.

God be with you,

John

ps,
You will be commemorated in my prayers for my other Veterans.

The Antiochian Archdiocese has some sort of distance learning program, I would ask them and look into that. To my knowledge, SVOTS has nothing like this.

My priest told me about the distance learning program the other day.
You can get a Master of Arts in Orthodox THeology from the University of Balamand. Pretty cool, some thing I am lookin into.

I wonder if you can be ordained to the priesthood with that?

Generally, I think, in those dioceses where seminary education is a requirement for ordination, it is the M.Div. which is required for ordination. If you belong to or will join a Church where seminary education is not necessarily required, I would think that M.A., with supplementary learning gained through other means, would be sufficient. Ask your priest what the rule is in your diocese.

My priest just got his PhD from some school in england. He has a BA in history a M. Div. and a PhD. in Theology i believe. I did a report on becomeing a priest in the Antiochian Church and all that is needed is a BA but that MA from Balamand.edu is not accreddited here in the US. its only recognized by the Gov. of leb.
