How do seminarians marry

Post by Olympiada »

Greetings Euphrosynos Cafe
I received a communication from the OCMC this morning informing me of the shortage of priests in South America. There are some studying in America right now to become priests. And I got to thinking "how do these men marry"? Meaning how do they meet their wives? Do men who desire to be priests just have faith that God will provide a wife for them?

They should find pious orthodox women who are willing to marry a future priest and all the "problems" that this implies (also the economic ones).

well if you look at the majority of Orthodox Priests in whatever jurisdiction of south america, they are usually Heiro-Monks, one does not have to be married to be a Priest, in fact some Black Priests beleive it better to give yourself entirely to God and his Flock.and then again the White Priests think 'look at the Catholic scandals" but realistically the roman catholic scandals of abuse of children has nothing to do with being married or a Monastic, for they lost something along time ago and keep losing more and more each year.....I have heard many american stories of Bishops telling there seminarians upon there last year to make a decision ASAP to either become a Heiro-Monk or take a year or less and go find a wife......Please Fathers forgive me, but If I was worthy of becoming a Priest, i would prefer to be a Monastic and Serve God and his Flock.....I admire the Married Priests for dealing with a family and the church and its services, I pray for the Holy Priesthood of married Clergy that God may strengthen you all, including my good friend Padre Siluan..........I must admit that 35 years as a traditional roman catholic, im just used to unmarried Priests(celibecy has gone away a long time ago in the roman Catholic church)..
