Moscow Patriarchate denies participation in Oil-for-Food program
Moscow, December 21, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church has denied statements it allegedly participated in the UN Oil-for-Food program.
Media reports, citing the Volcker Report, said the Moscow Patriarchate had been a program participant.
"All the published data is irrelevant. The Russian Orthodox Church is not mentioned and cannot be mentioned in the report, because it did not participate in economic operations linked to the UN program," a statement by the Moscow Patriarchate press service says.
The Russian Orthodox Church urged mass media organizations "not to distort facts and to be more responsible for their activity."
