Carreras to give a charity concert in Moscow with the blessing of Alexy II

Moscow, December 19, Interfax - Jose Carreras, an outstanding Spanish tenor, will perform in Moscow with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia.

Participating the charitable concert in favour of the Children’s Hematologic Center will be Maria Gulegina, a world top opera singer, the Patriarchal choir, the Preobrajenie (Transfiguration) children’s choir and the symphony orchestra conducted by Carreras’s nephew David Jimenes, the Rossijskaya gazeta daily writes on Monday.

‘We always repeat the same wishes to one another, but their meaning does not become less important because of it. I wish you peace, good health and happiness’, were the words with which the Spanish tenor greeted all those who came for his press conference before the concert.

The singer expressed regret that his tough schedule would prevent him from visiting the Center to meet the sick children, but he was sure that the patients and medical staff of the Center would be able to come for his concert in the Kremlin.

It is not a formal wish for the singer since he himself happened to have overcome a serious illness. ‘Miracles happen in life every day. All depends on what we ourselves believe to be a miracle. It is a miracle when a person gets over a serious illness’, Carreras said.

He remarked that he had personal reasons to believe that a miracle happened to him. ‘It is a miracle when you have an opportunity to celebrate Christmas together with your own people. I am happy because this year I will be able at last to do what I wanted to do for a long time and what I had to do - to spend the holidays together with my son, daughter and my close friends’, he said sharing his joy with the journalists.
