Question for the forum moderators

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

So I'm checking out the latest stuff and see this. Being curious, I read on. As far as I see it, Miriam, you have a big bee in your bonnet. It's one thing to be offended by the likes of "Br" Nathaniel, who is obviously mentally unstable...but, what, for the love of truth, did Kollyvas say?

In Christ,

Joanna, member of ROCOR

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)

Joasia:

I will admit that i have a bee in my bonnet, but I cannot stand self-righteous people who call others ignorant, simply because they do not like the Jurisdiction they are from, as if this makes them totally unable to present a view or observation or anything.

The above quote is Kollyvas's and before he changed it he referred to a fellow woman poster as ignorant. He has several times intimated that the women of this forum are unable to make logical, sincere statements. He derided that same woman for daring to quote Biblical scripture at him. He abused Orthodox6 when O6 took umbrage at his posting another person's post without permission.

He is allowed to bash everyone and make all sorts of insinuations, but never told or asked to stop or moderate his "tone". He critisizes everyone as and however he feels. Yet he cannot take any critisism without abusing the poster.

A simple observation that he could reap more with honey than with vinegar has sparked this posting.

He insinuates that he is in charge....so I am asking the forum are ROCOR people (yourself included) welcome to post or must we constantly be abused?

Kollyvas...

Kollyvas keeps things on topic and never ABOUT people. What I said was "ignorant" were PERSONAL ATTACKS on a thread dedicated to defending Orthodoxy from those persecuting it. They, these types of attacks, are ignorant. I even accomodated the one party by editing the post she felt was inappropriate. Then I went so far as to ENCOURAGE them to get whatever they had out of their systems on ANOTHER THREAD and say whatever they liked about me as much as they would like. Now, some people you mention didn't seem to take that seriously and decided to continue to heckle anyway. It seems to some I've never made a legitimate point. You don't know me--don't impugn my character or attack me personally, but if you decide to do so, don't expect me to take it seriously. Unlike some, I don't regard "persons" but CONTENT, so the whole "jurisdiction bashing/sexism" thing is just more fishing/provocation. I am specific in my criticism of CONTENT and not of person...then again, you'd have to be interested in Truth. BTW, on this very thread I brought up alot a ROCOR Priest brings up which could be criticized, seems that too is inappropriate. Criticism involves CRITICAL THINKING.

Miriam,

I think a lot can be put out of context, when you write with such emotional sensitivity. It doesn't benefit anyone, to have to read things that are on a personal level. If you have a problem with Kollyvas, then write to him, privately. I've been in these circumstances, myself and it doesn't benefit my soul, one iota.

Now, with certain other characters that have posted, it had become obvious that they were thoroughly unstable and the MAJORITY voiced their views, even myself. But, a difference of opinion doesn't substantiate such aggressive reactions.

I say all this, and yet, I have reacted in the same way, in the past(with other posters)...a long time ago. I have come to realize that I was only damaging myself because I allowed myself to express such feelings of anger. And I was ashamed of my reactions. Is that how Christ wants us to treat each other? Just ask yourself...do you feel right, afterwards, when you post in anger? I certainly don't. I would think that you have a conscience not to either. But, perhaps you are full of venom. I don't know. I hope not.

In Christ,

Joanna

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)

Dear Friends in Christ,

Of course ROCOR people are welcome on this forum. In fact anyone is. The overall tone is going to be against ROCOR coming in to union with the MP, but we do have regular posting members who are a part of the ROCOR, OCA and MP.

I have only skimmed over some of the new posts today, but if anyone is making personal attacks against other people, rather than debating ideas, please inform us so that we can take proper actions against an offender.

Joasia:

No I am not full of “venom”. I simply cannot abide people who set themselves up as infallible. I dislike men who are misogynist and take pleasure in the denigration of women. I do not accept this kind of treatment from anyone, let alone what’s his name. It irks me to see such behavior from Orthodox people, who should know better. There are too many people in the world who would denigrate women to the position of deaf, dumb and continually pregnant. Overlooking and putting down the scores of women who serve God in the quiet anonymity of a woman’s convent or even at the hearth of a home, struggles that are not seen or known in the “world”.

O6, you owe me no apology, nor do I think that you owe the forum one either. You were defending an Orthodox person who had been slighted. Rather I commend you for the courage to defend your friend in the face of such verbal abuse.

We are all Orthodox and yet we cannot find it in ourselves to say no to the evil in our world, the evil that divides us and causes the problems we face in this world.

We often confuse faith and religion. Faith is what is between you and God, while religion is the establishment of mankind. Sometimes religion in its many facets is good, but often it is not. It is hard enough to struggle to live as Christ taught, but when you add to that the squabbles and distortions of religion, it becomes an impossible struggle.

So no it is not venom, it is rather the injustice perpetrated by such as what’s his name, and a bunch of other so called Orthodox “resistors” whose retoric I have encountered recently, on the rest of us, all in the name of their version of Orthodoxy.
