The questions you asked were not simple. Actually, I had to think about how I would word my response. Your questions are understandable. But, don't confuse yourself too much with such complicated issues. I read alot of writings of the holy fathers over the years BEFORE I came to Orthodoxy(and afterwards too). Somehow, their spiritual teachings absorbed into my conscience and then the life lessons added to that...many falls and many picking myself up and dusting myself off. And it continues.
Perhaps a one-on-one conversation with someone would be easier.
