St. Paul said that men should not cover their heads when they are in church or praying, but women should. My question is, in all the jesus movies I've seen, Jesus and all the other men are praying and preaching with their heads covered, why is that?

A related question......
And I have wondered why sometimes a priest will wear a "head covering " while praying during the service..........
Why read so much into everything? So many things are based upon cultural tradition. Marrying into a Greek Orthodox familiy I have come to the conclusion that tradition is a good thing. I did not understand that before.

Likewise clergy and wonks wear long hair, while Saint Paul said men should keep their hair shorter and women should keep theirs long. Why is this? These were directions to the laity, not to the clergy. The long hair that clergy are required to have is a sacrifice, not an allowance.

symbolism
I think that both Terry's question and my own are interesting ones. As for mine, I have often found that knowing the Church's reason for a practice adds to its edifying value in my life.
The answer to Terry's question could also have an edifying lesson for us whether St. Paul changed the Jewish practice for Christians or the Jews changed their historic practice after Christ.
I believe symbolism serves its purpose best when its meaning is better understood.
